The Gift of God

November 15, 2020

Romans 6:23 - Do you want to know the entire Gospel of Romans concisely? Dr. Martyn Lloyd-Jones says that it is Romans 6:23. This verse is a summary of the entire chapters as well as the end of the argument to those who believed that they should continue in sin so that grace could be greater. Ultimately, there are only two possibilities facing each person in the world: the wages of sin is death or the gift of God is eternal life. Each of these two paths lead to an inevitable fate. Dr. Lloyd-Jones says there are a few contrasts that we should observe. These two paths differ in the master they serve, the conditions in which they serve, and the end to which the path leads. As a Christian, we are in Christ and we can know that we will have eternal life and imperishable glory with God forevermore. God’s purpose is to bring us into this spotless holiness. We should never argue anything other than this! God’s plan is the complete opposite of sin and death.

About Dr. Martyn Lloyd-Jones

Dr. Martyn Lloyd-Jones (1899–1981) has been described as "a great pillar of the 20th century Evangelical Church". Born in Wales, and educated in London, he was a brilliant student who embarked upon a short, but successful, career as a medical doctor at the famous St Bartholemew's Hospital. However, the call of Gospel ministry was so strong that he left medicine in order to become minister of a mission hall in Port Talbot, South Wales. Eventually he was called to Westminster Chapel in London, where thousands flocked to hear his "full-blooded" Gospel preaching, described by one hearer as "logic on fire". With some 1600 of his sermons recorded and digitally restored, this has left a legacy which is now available for the blessing of another generation of Christians around the world — "Though being dead he still speaks".
