Why I Started Joni and Friends

After her diving accident, Joni struggled to understand why God would allow such a tragedy, and she battled against depression and hopelessness. While influencing and inspiring others in the Lord is important, your primary attention must be on Jesus and obeying his Word. Focus on the high calling of honoring the Lord, and keep pressing on toward your heavenly prize.

Much of Jesus’s ministry was spent reaching out to the unclean and the outcast with a heart of compassion. Sometimes all it takes to be like Jesus is a simple touch, hug or handshake for that person no one else is interested in touching. Take time today to offer the touch of Jesus to someone who needs his compassion.

When you experience difficult trials, it’s easy to complain and be discouraged. But look to Paul, who viewed his imprisonment as an opportunity to advance the Gospel. Pray that your first response to hardships would not be to complain, but to consider how you can glorify God!

The next time you are in a church or cathedral, a big empty building, or even a wide open field, lift up your voice in praise to the Lord. Sing out a hymn or a worships song; recite a psalm or whisper a prayer. May the praise of the Lord always be on your lips!

When hardship hits, you will want the picture of what’s going on in your life to look complete and understandable. But that may not happen. The puzzle pieces may not fit together. Some may even get lost. Wisdom is not the ability to put the pieces back together again, but trusting the Lord even when you can’t.

God hides you under his wings, caring for you with tenderness and compassion. When fear and worry threaten to overwhelm you, rest safely under his wings, and know that his faithfulness never fails!

Prayer can often focus on asking the Lord to make life more comfortable and less challenging. But if you are a follower of Christ, you are a new creation. He has given you a new heart! May your prayers focus less on your circumstances and more on living a life pleasing to the Lord.

When a friend is overwhelmed with anxiety or facing a difficult trial, it can be hard to know what to say. Simply offer words of kindness. Kind words will not fix the problem, but they can uplift a heavy heart and bring cheer. Look for an opportunity to bless someone today!
