The Day Hope Eclipsed Death, Part 2

April 7, 2023

Is there anything more devastating in life than hopelessness?

In 1 Corinthians 15:12–26, Paul assumes the role of skeptic, inviting his readers to consider the domino effect of “What if?” “What if there is no hope of resurrection?” If there is no hope, then the consequences are dire. Thankfully, the passage assures us that Jesus did rise from the dead and, someday, so will we!

Stir your heart as you listen to Pastor Chuck Swindoll exploring the promise of heaven in which your hope will culminate with the very presence of the object of your hope, Jesus Christ!

Pastor Chuck Swindoll asks, “What one word would you use to describe Jesus? Amazing? Compassionate? Faithful? Forgiving? Life-giving? Loving? The word he chooses: FASCINATING. Jesus did the unpredictable to accomplish the incredible. Fascinating! When we see Jesus’ extraordinary, unexpected, fascinating perfection, we simultaneously see our own imperfection. Though depravity infects all humanity (except Jesus), thankfully we have the gospel to guide us to Christlikeness. Study along in Mark 10:46–11:10 as Pastor Chuck leads you toward a better understanding of your Lord and to an ever-growing Christlikeness.

Jesus was a mystery to most people in His day. They simply couldn’t figure Him out! Jesus described Himself with metaphors—“the bread,” “the light,” “the vine,” and others. Pastor Chuck Swindoll examines how Jesus used these words to explain His relationship with us. When Jesus describes His inner self, though, He sums it up using one word: humble. Delve deeper into the heart of Jesus as Pastor Chuck, reviewing John 13:3–15, implores you to be humble as Christ is humble.

Betrayal. Few experiences are harder to endure. This is especially true when the one who causes the hurt is in your closest circle. The Bible speaks much about betrayal—of those betrayed as well as betrayers. No one can understand being forsaken more than Jesus, and no one in the Scriptures is more remembered for his personal treason than Judas Iscariot. Join Pastor Chuck Swindoll as he gleans timely truths from Judas’ betrayal of Jesus and offers words of wisdom for your relationships with others.

Certain scenes in the Scriptures seem too significant—too deeply personal—to casually gloss over, such as some of the psalms of lament, certain prayers, and stirring scenes of worship. Likewise, this passage in Mark 14 serves as a treasure worth pondering. With respectful awe, Pastor Chuck Swindoll takes a close look at one of the most moving scenes in the Gospels—Mary anointing Jesus with precious perfume. Learn from Mary’s example about the eternal value of loving acting with extravagant love, no matter the cost.
