Facing Life's Foes

January 30, 2018

In one corner, Goliath. His advantages? Height, strength, experience, armor, and weaponry. In the other, David. His advantage? God.

By all external factors, it didn’t look like the odds were in David’s favor—but God was. In this message, Dr. Stanley explores the most famous underdog story and outlines what we can learn when we come face to face with the giants in our own lives. Don’t let the enemy of your soul intimidate you—learn to fight in God’s strength and not your own.

“God sees not as man sees, for man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart” (1 Sam. 16:7). It wasn’t David’s looks that drew God’s attention. It was his character. Learn how to pursue a godly character so that when God calls on you, you'll be ready.

Life is continually changing. Every day is different. Unrest around the world threatens people's security and safety. With so much happening in our world, it may seem impossible to have peace of mind. In "Confidence in Troublesome Times," we learn otherwise. God, through His word, has provided believers all the assurance and confidence we need.   Remember that God is still in control—no matter how overwhelming or impossible the challenges may seem. Place your trust fully in Him and you will have confidence and peace during every storm you face.

When the bottom drops out and when everything breaks loose, where do you turn? It's in the times of disaster and disappointment that even the most ungodly person cries out, "Oh, my God!" In this encouraging sermon, "In His Presence," Dr. Charles Stanley discusses why we inherently go to God when we don't know where to turn, and how God's love and comfort are always available to us if we'll believe in Him.

We all know Jesus wept. But did you know He whipped? Even the Son of God got angry, brandishing a whip and driving out the vendors from His Father’s house (John 2:15). It’s comforting to know that as children of God we’re allowed to feel anger, but how do we deal with it in a healthy way? In this message, Dr. Stanley explains how to be angry and not sin (Eph. 4:26). Don’t let anger eat through your life—find freedom in confession and expression.

But. Such a small, simple word. Yet those three letters constitute rebellion when we say them in response to God’s direct commands.  In this message, Dr. Stanley explains that partial obedience to God isn’t obedience at all, but rebellion. If we want God to use our lives for His mighty purposes, we must listen and obey His voice. Learn how to surrender your will to the Lord and walk according to His.

There are many storms in life that have nothing to do with weather or the circumstances of nature. These storms have to do with peoples' personal and private lives, and they live in these storms every single day. In "God's Purpose in the Storm," Dr. Charles Stanley explains that God is committed to our good, but we have to respond accordingly when these storms come, otherwise things will not turn out for the best.

King Saul was anointed by a prophet, chosen by God to be king, and deliberately sinned. King David was also anointed by a prophet, chosen by God to be king, and deliberately sinned. So alike, yet one was called a man after God’s own heart and the other, a regretful decision. Why did God forgive David but ultimately reject Saul as king? In this message, Dr. Stanley illuminates the key difference between the two kings.

“It matters not how you start out. It’s how you finish your life that really counts," says Dr. Charles Stanley. One of the most tragic figures in the Bible is King Saul. What can we learn from a life that began with such promise, only to end so badly? In this message, Dr. Stanley gives a solemn warning: Even seemingly small acts of disobedience can derail us from accomplishing God’s best for our lives.
