Gerry is joined by Mike Timlin, retired baseball pro who gained two World Series rings with the Blue Jays, and two with the Boston Red Sox. Mike reflects on his time as a pitcher, and how he is using these skills to help his son, Jake, as an assistant coach at his Christian high school. Mike also talks about relationships, having had his father leave when he was just a baby, and the importance of developing relationships with family, friends, and people who need to know the Creator God in the time that they are spending in the out-of-doors.

Thirty-year Bass Pro, Joe Thomas, is this week’s guest and talks to Gerry about how the sport has changed over the years that he has been competing. Joe also shares how his career as a Bass Pro has allowed him to become television host on two fishing shows, and now is also a co-host on a hunting show, as well. Joe talks about the struggles of being able to be a part of these three outdoor shows, the balance that he has to keep in his life, and how he works to maintain a focus on his relationship with Jesus Christ.

Gerry visits with his and Cyndi’s old friends, Charlie and Yvonne Weihrouch. On this trip, Gerry felt enough time had elapsed since this family had experienced the tragic accidental death and loss of their daughter, Megan, in a farming accident to talk about how they made it through this difficult time in their lives. The couple share about their daily chores at running a dairy farm, and the experiences that this business has had in their lives and that of their family. Being so close to the outdoors, it is no surprise that this family also enjoys the bounty of God’s great outdoors out their own back door as they also love to deer hunt together.

Doing outdoor adventures with family, his wife and children, has been the major focus in Dave Myers’ life. He began to write down and record the adventures for his family to reflect on in the future, and discovered that each of the outings seemed to have some spiritual lesson that was learned during the event. Consequently, he compiled these true stories of his outdoor experiences and put them into a book titled, “Swim Upstream”, which is what he and Gerry talk about during this interview.

A trip into the Gulf of Alaska after huge flat fish is what Gerry and Capt. Steve Button discuss on this week’s Trail to Adventure!. Halibut get so large (they can be over 300 pounds) that the big ones are referred to as “barn doors”. Capt. Steve shares about his youth, and how the outdoors kept him from getting into trouble. Plus, the fact that he became an avid trapper in Iowa, this motivated him to move to Alaska and try his hand doing the same thing in The Great Land.

A controversy about scripture references on scopes made for the military created quite a stir not long ago. This is one of the topics that are discussed as Gerry visits with Tom Munson from Trijicon. The two talk about that issue, and the fact that this manufacturer of illuminated sights has been in the practice of putting Bible verse references on theirproducts since their beginning. Tom also shares how hearing Joni Erikson Tada speak not long after her diving accident where her neck was broken, moved him in such a way that he prayed to receive Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior.

Having shot the world’s record typical white tail buck with the crossbow, Brad Jerman has had many opportunities to share about the Creator God. Brad joins Gerry and Daryl Christensen at a day-long event just outside of Houston, Texas, where the goal is to see lives transformed. Brad shares his testimony which included multiple arrests, problems with drugs and alcohol, and pornography to the point that it almost destroyed his marriage. His transformation because of the grace of God also includes his greatest hunting experiences, and that is time spent in the blind hunting deer with his daughters.

Jay Yelas is a pro bass angler fishing on the FLW Bass Tour. He visits with Gerry as they sit in a bass boat on Lake St. Clair somewhere close to the Canadian border on the Detroit, Michigan side. The two discuss outdoor outreach, and how you can use God’s creation (Romans 1:20), tied to changed lives (Ephesians 2:10), to see sportsmen come to know Jesus as Creator, Lord and Savior.

Gerry hooks up with Mark Copeland who manages Jay’s Sporting Goods, two stores located in Michigan. Mark relates how his coming to a Trail to Adventure! Conference in Roscommon, Michigan moved him to start using his love of archery to reach young people for Jesus Christ. Mark got involved with the Centershot Ministry that brings archery into the church, and correlates the different techniques needed to learn to shoot properly with God’s Word. Mark also discusses how important listening is in communication, and how, as men, we need to be willing to sacrifice our time in the outdoors in exchange for time with the family.

This week’s interview is from Prince of Wales Island in the panhandle of Alaska. Gerry visits with Keith and Cheryl Webb. Keith is the pastor of the Coffman Cove Baptist Church. The couple tells the story of the years they have been working on the Blue Water Christian Youth Camp, a place where youth from the island and other communities on other islands in that part of Alaska can come for a week. The Webbs share how even in the building of the facility that they believe will be used by God to change lives, life-changing decisions have been made by those who have come to help with the construction.

This interview should be of incredible interest and importance to anyone who hunts from a tree stand. Keith Jones of Summit Tree Stands reflects on the changes in safety that have occurred in the tree stand industry. The effort is to reduce the number of hunters injured or killed, which is currently one out of every three who climb into the heights of the timber where they are hunting. Gerry and Keith give information to the listeners that they both hope will keep them from becoming one of these sad statistics.
