God's Great Outdoors - Berry and Holly Feig

July 15, 2019

On this week’s Trail To Adventure! Gerry is with a couple, who help the owner’s of Rushing Wind Retreat Center in Ontario, Canada minister to military veterans. Gerry’s in Black River Falls, WI with Berry and Holly Feig. Barry shares about his personal struggle with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and many of his fellow veterans as well. Arnie Wolf had told Barry of his desire to do some type of wounded warrior (style) event at his fishing camp located a little over an hour above International Falls, Minnesota. So, Berry and Holly feeling God’s call to assist Arnie and his wife Dee, in this greatly needed area of ministry started helping. Since the onset of this special week it has grown in attendance and in the scope of how it’s helping other Vets with their struggles too. That’s why their call is going out to any and all military veterans, plus their spouses to join in this event as well!

On this week's Trail To Adventure! Gerry’s interview is with Dennis and Peggy Robinson who relate an experience that happened when they were dairy farmers in Wisconsin. Dennis placed himself before God and everything in his life was about him and what he wanted in life. His wife Peggy had turned him over to the Lord and said, "You need to deal with him, Lord, he is yours." Two days later Dennis was pulled half way through a hay wagon mechanical apparatus and was not expected to live from the massive injuries he received. Yet, God had a plan, and it included transforming a man to be what God wanted him to be. Clearly this is an interview we can all benefit from and a direction to move to also!

On this Trail To Adventure! this week’s interview takes place during a Fisher’s of Men Retreat at Rushing Wind Retreat Center in Ontario, Canada. The guest Jeff Swan reveals how skeptical he was the first year attending, as his church group had labeled the event a “mission’s trip”. He thought “Yeah, it’s really all about fishing, I’m sure!” But, did he discover how wrong he was and how God spoke to both he and his wife, the first year they attended. This is an outreach that is changing lives for eternity and listeners may consider this as something for those in their lives too! Jeff also reflects the importance of being the kind of man or women that God wants us to be. A broadcast we can all learn from and goal to aim for as well!

The topic on this week’s Trail To Adventure! is on Lyme Disease and Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever. Gerry visits with Billy (Catfish) Parker and his wife Laura at the C’Meer Deer booth during the annual Archery Trade Assn. Show that was held in Indianapolis, Indiana in February of 2015. Both of these outdoor recreationalists share stories of the adventures and the battle that is encountered by a tiny insect at least eight months of the year. Ticks! Laura has been infected with both Lyme Disease and Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever, but early detection helped in her treatment being a quick ordeal. Billy however, went a number of years before his Lyme Disease was discovered causing extended and daily treatments that lasted many months. Their hope is as they tell this story; is it will help keep others from having to go through the same mess they experienced!

On this week’s Trail To Adventure! we’ll discover how you can have your family and area kids hooked for life. That’s hooked, with their own personal relationship with the Creator God, Jesus Christ. Gerry’s guest is Trevor Ruble, the President and Founder of a ministry to children and families molded on teaching them how to fish called "Hooked for Life." This is an interest or activity based outdoor outreach and evangelistic fishing themed program that is being adopted by many churches across North America. Trevor shares how he had struggled as a kid without a dad and how fishing was his escape from that loss. As an adult the ministry idea was something God laid on his heart, as a way to help kids to learn to fish and also could be used to help youth come to know Jesus Christ as their Savior.

On this Trail To Adventure! a family tragedy is part of the story as the guest will give the listeners some real recreational water safety thoughts to consider. Kenny Ratliff begins this interview by describing great times in the outdoors with his dad and reflects on how he introduced him to spending time afield and stream. This later in his life became where he directed his vocation and passed up opportunities to wear a suit and tie to work. Kenny then goes into the story of how on Father’s Day some years back, and at the same time, the family was celebrating his dad’s and his youngest brother’s birthdays, something terrible happened. Kayaking on an area river, both of these two loved ones were taken home to be with the Lord because of a boating accident. A sad event to be sure, but one we can all learn from to be safe in our future recreation on the water.

On this week's Trail To Adventure! Gerry’s with David Hale, one of the two founders of Knight and Hale game calls. Knight and Hale is probably one of the best-known game calling businesses in the outdoor industry. David shares on how the business got started because of an article written about the tube turkey call the two of them built in the back of Harold Knight’s barber shop. He reflects on the journey they have had as a game call company, and how incredibly blessed they are because of their Creator God. Gerry and David discuss how we are without excuse in God’s creation not to see that there is a great Creator God. Also looked at, is “The Great Commission”, and the ways outdoorsmen can reach others with the love of Jesus Christ, to keep them from the flames of Hell when they die!

This week’s Trail To Adventure! Radio Program has the listeners going back into the Badger State as this recorded interview was done at the Prayz Network in Sparta, Wisconsin. Our host Gerry has hooked up with Matt McPherson, the owner of Mathews Bows, located in the same city as the radio station. Together, from an engineering/design prospective, the two men look at the Creation around us including the entire Universe, giving credit to our Creator God who spoke it into existence! “Intelligent Design” is the topic as Matt, a design engineer, invites listeners to not just accept what evolutionists say, but mindfully look at the many facts revealing that there has to be a “Designer” in all that exists. Matt presents a number of excellent arguments that can help “break the ice” that ask those around us to examine some truths and begin to think intelligently in the matter!

On this production of Trail To Adventure! program were at the National Religious Broadcasts Convention in Dallas, Texas. Gerry and his guest, Ken Davis will have you laughing as he interviews this well know and popular Christian comedian. The two of them discuss how humor can be used in friendship, to hurt others and to help share the Gospel. Ken also relates how he got involved in the outdoors, his love for hunting, archery, and how he now pursues big animals like elk with his bow and arrow. The point made here is that laughter is a gift from God, and can be used to tear down barriers unsaved people have in order to share the truth that Jesus Christ loves them very much!
