May 12, 2023

Perhaps you're feeling that God has lost sight of you. Perhaps you're frustrated that others who you know aren't following Christ seem to have an easier time than you. God has a word of comfort for you. We need to live in the light of the future hope of the Messiah's return.

One group says the Bible is a book about love, mercy, and kindness. They think of the story of the Good Samaritan and of Jesus telling us to turn the other cheek. So how could anyone think the Bible prevents a tolerant society? But for another group, the Bible is far from tolerant. There’s the conquest of Canaan. There’s Elijah killing Baal’s prophets by his own hand. And in the New Testament, Jesus talks often about hell. That’s not tolerant. What then can we say in answer to this question? Ecclesiastes is saying that you have to realize that one day you'll have to stand before the One who knows the secrets of every human heart. It's telling you that if you haven't thought about judgment lately, it might be time to do so.

We can rejoice in hope, confidence, certainty, and assurance. When we know that our destiny is certain glory, our present is freed to live with abounding hope.

The subject we are addressing has been transformative for many religious and non-religious people. The righteousness of God revealed brings hope and praise.

If you wanted to create a society where people would be maximally unpleasant to each other, all you would have to do is remove the fear of God. People behave badly when they don't fear God or judgment.

There's no truly good deed done if it's not done for God's glory, because someone has to get the focus and praise. We are made to give glory to something or someone.

We're all made in the image of God, which means we're all built to worship. But do we worship God, or career, money, or nature?
