One group says the Bible is a book about love, mercy, and kindness. They think of the story of the Good Samaritan and of Jesus telling us to turn the other cheek. So how could anyone think the Bible prevents a tolerant society? But for another group, the Bible is far from tolerant. There’s the conquest of Canaan. There’s Elijah killing Baal’s prophets by his own hand. And in the New Testament, Jesus talks often about hell. That’s not tolerant. What then can we say in answer to this question? Romance is great, but marriage can be hard work. It is very challenging for the husband—if he's doing it right, he is surrendering his self interest just as Christ surrendered himself for us.

When you look at the popular portrayal of men in marriage these days, what do you think of? Wimps? Weak men? We don't like the idea of submission today, but we need to look at what Jesus really means by submission.

If we submit to authority, we also make a positive statement about the core message of Christianity and the supernatural nature of what it means to be a Christian.
February 2, 2021
Submission is not a bad thing when it's understood biblically. We need to remember that it is God we are serving. Our submission to human authority is an expression of God's moral order.

Knowing the truth about ourselves is so much more than just looking inward. It's coming into an increasing awareness of who we are in relationship to God. And along that journey comes wholeness.

In order to proclaim Christ, we can't be shut up spending all our time with Christians. Jesus wants us to get involved with people outside the church and live good lives among them.
