Those Words at the Altar Part 1

September 21, 2010
Till death do us part! If you’re married, you remember saying those words on your wedding day. Maybe you had a church full of guests who witnessed you saying them too! Did you realize though, that God was a witness at your wedding, and He is the one who not only wrote the contract but officiated the wedding as well? Now that brings things into perspective. Today on Focal Point, we’ll take a look at what God has to say about the marriage relationship, as pastor Mike Fabarez resumes his mini-series called, “Those Words at the Altar.” I think you’ll walk away from this with the realization that your wedding day was a significant and sacred event.

Books are coming out left and right, trying to show parents how to be a better parent. Typically the author focuses on a set of techniques they believe will lead to success. As we get back to rethinking our marriage today on Focal Point, we’re really not going to focus on a set of techniques. Rather, we’re going to be encouraged to be the people God wants us to be. That’s really what parenting is all about, and Pastor Mike Fabarez will utilize Colossians 3 to drive that home.

God has designed the raising and sending forth of our kids to be framed around a committed, loving, God-honoring marriage. Christ should be the focal point of our marriages and family life. Our study today is encouraging us in that direction. It’s called, “Passing the Baton,” and today pastor Mike Fabarez is going to show us that if we’re going to raise good kids, we need a good marriage.

We continue to look to the Bible for help for our marital relationships today on Focal Point. As we go through the Word of God, we can’t help but notice the Lord has a lot to say about parenting. Pastor Mike Fabarez is going to land in Genesis two today, because it’s important for us to understand that if we’re going to raise good kids we need a good marriage.

Many of us have bought into the lie that if we just get more then we’ll be happy. Today on Focal Point, Pastor Mike Fabarez shows us that an ungodly pursuit of wealth can actually destroy a marriage. Our Old Testament school of marriage wraps up today, with a few wise words from Proverbs. Perhaps more than anything else, it seems like money and financial concerns are at the center of our marital conflicts and arguments. Have you noticed that? Some marriages even split because of it. Let’s join Mike Fabarez in Proverbs 15 for some help in that arena.

While marriages may be made in heaven, they do require maintenance work here on earth! At times they need a simple tune-up and other times a complete overhaul. As we approach the end our our series called, "The Old Testament School of Marriage," we realize it wouldn’t be complete without including what the book of Proverbs has to say on the matter. Pastor Mike Fabarez will draw out a good number of Principles from Proverbs to help our marriages.

It should be no surprise to us that when two imperfect people unite, imperfections will follow . When shouting leads to pouting, it is important to know how to best resolve the issue at hand. Pastor Mike Fabarez says the bottom line is to forgive as God forgave you. Marriage has been our minds for the last several broadcasts, and it continues to be here today as we take a look at the relationship between Hosea and Gomer.

It’s been said that “He who cannot forgive others destroys the bridge over which he himself must pass.” Today on Focal Point, Mike Fabarez continues to offer principles from the Old Testament, to help strengthen our marriages. We turn our attention now to what Pastor Mike refers to as one of the worst marital situations in all the Bible. Hosea, a prophet of God, married a woman named Gomer, who brought to the relationship a shaky past to say the least. But, in spite of her character flaws, Hosea was called of God to love his wife like Christ loves the church. Well maybe your marriage isn’t what it should be today and your spouse is mistreating you! Let’s be encouraged now through the story of Hosea.

All too often our marriages start off with sacrifice and ministry, but as the years go by, indifference and selfishness sets in. Recovering the romance in the marital relationship will be the Focal Point of Mike Fabarez’ message today as he continues “The Old Testament School of Marriage.” Pastor Mike will have us consider the relationship between Solomon and The Shulammite woman on this Wednesday.
September 8, 2010
Song of Solomon is a 3,000 year old poem rich with romance that has often been dismissed and ignored, and really for no good reason! We’ve all heard messages centered around the misuse of sex, from fornication, to adultery. It’s good to be reminded of that. However, we must not forget the good things God has to say on the matter! In its proper place, sex is not only approved by God, but as we’ll see today on Focal Point, it is encouraged by our Lord. Mike Fabarez will have us consider what a good honeymoon looks like, with the hope that it will help strengthen your marriage.
