Taking a Closer Look at Spiritual Defection, Part 1

January 28, 2015
Recently we’ve been talking about real Christians. Mike Fabarez has described those who know Jesus … but never decide to truly follow Him.  As our series, Almost a Christian, continues,we’ll take our study a step further.  Can those who profess to follow Jesus ever walk away from Him?  On this edition of Focal Point, we'll consider this critical question, and the possibility of falling away.

Around 80 percent of Americans consider themselves Christians.  But out of all those that say, “I’m a Christian” … how many actually are?  On this edition of Focal Point, Mike Fabarez begins a new mini-series in Hebrews called Almost a Christian.  It’s an in-depth look at the difference between those that say they know Jesus and those that truly follow Him.  To illustrate the distinction, Pastor Mike uses a familiar relationship as an example.

Without confidence, certain actions become impossible.  We’ll never sit in a chair if we’re not confident it can hold us up.  We’ll never follow a tour guide if we’re not sure he knows where he is going.  More importantly, we’ll never enjoy a vibrant faith if we’re not certain of what Jesus promised.  On this edition of Focal Point, Mike Fabarez concludes our mini-series, When God Makes a Promise.

You know, it’s true—what Christ has done in the past has real significance in our present and future.  On this edition of Focal Point, Pastor Mike helps us look over our shoulder, to see what God ordained in the past can give us a greater appreciation for the blessings we enjoy now.

So what is this Biblical evidence that validates our trust?  Where in Scripture could we turn to find these encouraging promises from God?  I think most of us would head straight to the New Testament.  On this edition of Focal Point, Mike Fabarez points us back to the Old Testament for evidence of God’s faithfulness.  In a series called, When God Makes a Promise, we're exploring the many reasons to believe every word from God.

Experience tells us to take what people say with a grain of salt.  That’s because the promises people make can be easily broken.  And what we say isn’t always what we do.  But where others may disappoint us … God never will.  On this edition of Focal Point, Mike Fabarez offers biblical proof for having full confidence in God’s words.  There’s no promise He won’t keep.  No plan He’ll fail to accomplish.

There was a time when agreements were made with a handshake.  But today’s transactions are usually accompanied by lengthy contracts and legal jargon.  Why?  Because a person’s word isn’t always trustworthy.  Thankfully, God doesn’t operate that way.  On this edition of Focal Point, we’ll explore why we can be absolutely confident in everything God says.
