Learning to Listen to the King's Prophets, Part 3

July 8, 2014
What does the ideal pastor look like? What qualities does he possess? On this edition of Focal Point, Mike Fabarez answers those questions by pointing us to a rather unconventional missionary. John the Baptist didn’t quite fit the stereotypical mold of a popular preacher. But according to Jesus, he was the best there ever was! So let’s look at John the Baptist to see how we should be sharing God’s Word to a world who desperately needs to hear it.

If you want to build a house, you’d probably consult a contractor, not an accountant.  But if you want your taxes filed, it’s a good idea to go to an accountant and not a plumber.  If we’re looking for wisdom on following Jesus, we need to look to the experts for guidance.  Not just anyone will do.

They say that “Actions speak louder than words.”  It’s easy to make big claims about who we are or what we can do.  But those declarations sound hollow if they aren’t backed up with even bigger actions.  On this edition of Focal Point, Mike Fabarez says we can trust that Jesus is the King … not because of what He said, but because of what He did!

Scripture describes a coming king who will right every wrong, heal every hurt, and bring about everlasting peace on earth.  But if Jesus is the fulfillment of this promise, why has the world remained relatively unchanged?  Where is this kingdom the Bible spoke of?  On this edition of Focal Point, Mike Fabarez looks at Jesus’ reply to the question, “Are you the Savior … or should we wait for someone else?”

Many people expected the promised Messiah would storm onto the world’s stage as a conquering king … who would rule over an earthly kingdom.  The people were so busy searching for their version of the Savior that they overlooked His true arrival!  On this edition of Focal Point, Mike Fabarez encourages us not to make the same mistake.  We need to let God’s Word define the person and purpose of Jesus and not our own assumptions.

Jesus said that if we put our trust in Him, death would have no claim on us.  One day we’d follow in His footsteps and walk right out of our graves and into a brand- new life!  But is victory over death even possible?  On this edition of Focal Point, Mike Fabarez points to a miraculous act of Jesus as evidence that resurrection is not only possible, but promised!

It’s never easy to attend the funeral of a loved one.  As we gather around to say our final goodbyes, we’re hit with the sheer injustice of death.  Though we’ve heard death is natural, it never feels that way.  On this edition of Focal Point, Mike Fabarez shares a message of hope.  While death is age- old problem, Jesus is our ultimate solution!  We’ll see a preview of the Christ’s victory as we turn to Luke, chapter 7.

Though our individual lives may lead us along different paths, all of us eventually end up in the same place.  The grave is the final resting place for every person.  But it won’t be that way forever.  Death won’t always have the upper hand.  But how can we be so sure?  On this edition of Focal Point, Mike Fabarez takes us to Luke, chapter 7 for a glimpse of Jesus’ coming kingdom … which means the defeat of death.
