How to Get Eternal Life Part 1a - Rethinking God

September 29, 2010
Young, wealthy, a leader, sharp and smart... some would say he had it all. But he lacked the greatest thing of all. Sadly his story didn’t end well. We’ll take a look at the Rich Young Ruler’s conversation with Jesus today on Focal Point as we introduce a new series. How do I get eternal life? It’s a question we’ve got to come to grips with. For the next few weeks we’ll embark on a quest to answer that question from the Scriptures.

They say the average person spends one-fifth of his or her life talking! Think about that for a second. Among all those words we say there are bound to be some spoken in anger, some we wish we could take back, and others that really blessed people too. The Bible says on judgment day, we’ll actually give an account for every careless word we’ve spoken. I think you’d agree, with that in view, we need to work on controlling what we say. And today’s Focal Point will help us with that.

The biblical principles on marriage are under great attack today. Today, on the broadcast, we’ll gain a greater understanding of the roles God has designed for the husband and the wife, and by the end of our time together, I think you’ll see the great benefit of having divine harmony in marriage. God will reward you greatly, if you’ll do it His way. We’ll get started by turning to Joshua, and then we will jump back to Ephesians 5.

When we left you last time, Mike Fabarez made it clear, that pain is to be expected in marriage. But we don’t want to leave you there. As we reconsider the meaning and challenges associated with marriage today, we want you to understand there’s a great deal of joy to be experienced in marriage too. As we aim for divine unity in our marriages we have the opportunity to experience divine realities!

Many of us have committed Romans 8:28 to memory, but have you ever thought of how it relates to your marriage? God never promised that our marriages would be problem and pain free. We’re imperfect people in an imperfect world, and when we get married it’s going to be a trial. The good news is, God wants to use that marital pain to develop spiritual growth in our lives. Not only that, but God wants to help us through it all. Join pastor Mike for a couple of things we must remember when marriage gets tough.

When two imperfect people unite, and come under the same roof, difficulties and trials are bound to pop up. God is ready to assist us when they do, and as we’ll see today on Focal Point, He uses difficulties as catalysts for spiritual growth. This week on Focal Point Pastor Mike Fabarez is leading us through his three-part series on marriage. We’re calling it, “Those Words at the Altar.” Let’s find our place in James one, and look inside a wonderful toolbox for our marriages, and develop some marital optimism.

Till death do us part! If you’re married, you remember saying those words on your wedding day. Maybe you had a church full of guests who witnessed you saying them too! Did you realize though, that God was a witness at your wedding, and He is the one who not only wrote the contract but officiated the wedding as well? Now that brings things into perspective. Today on Focal Point, we’ll take a look at what God has to say about the marriage relationship, as pastor Mike Fabarez resumes his mini-series called, “Those Words at the Altar.” I think you’ll walk away from this with the realization that your wedding day was a significant and sacred event.

Today on Focal Point, we’re excited about the series ahead of us, as we believe God can use it greatly to impact you and your family life! No doubt you’ve heard many studies centered on marriage, but perhaps, not too many dealing with it from the aspect of a sacred covenant! Here on this Monday, pastor Mike Fabarez will outline the differences between a human and a divine covenant. This will serve as an important foundation for the series.

Books are coming out left and right, trying to show parents how to be a better parent. Typically the author focuses on a set of techniques they believe will lead to success. As we get back to rethinking our marriage today on Focal Point, we’re really not going to focus on a set of techniques. Rather, we’re going to be encouraged to be the people God wants us to be. That’s really what parenting is all about, and Pastor Mike Fabarez will utilize Colossians 3 to drive that home.

God has designed the raising and sending forth of our kids to be framed around a committed, loving, God-honoring marriage. Christ should be the focal point of our marriages and family life. Our study today is encouraging us in that direction. It’s called, “Passing the Baton,” and today pastor Mike Fabarez is going to show us that if we’re going to raise good kids, we need a good marriage.
September 16, 2010
We continue to look to the Bible for help for our marital relationships today on Focal Point. As we go through the Word of God, we can’t help but notice the Lord has a lot to say about parenting. Pastor Mike Fabarez is going to land in Genesis two today, because it’s important for us to understand that if we’re going to raise good kids we need a good marriage.
