Cynicism Part 3

April 24, 2019

Cynicism can keep unbelievers from submitting to God and receiving new life. But cynicism can also be a barrier for those who are saved, keeping us from fully trusting God and submitting to his leading. So we have to be aggressive at rooting out cynicism.

If you doubt the goodness of God, don't kick the can down the road. Don't put it off. Deal with it now! Respond to yourself in a rational, prayerful, logical, urgent way.

And that makes people wonder, if all those other religions were false, how can we know that Christianity is different? That's a question we have to answer if we want to be effective evangelists. A lot of people dismiss Christianity as a religion of con artists and hypocrites. Sometimes these objections are the result of a bad experience with religion in the past. But often, it's actually an excuse to distract from their real objection: They don’t want to submit to God's authority.

Tragically, there are many people in our world who have been "turned off" to religion after a bad experience with manipulative preachers or cults. With so many people using God’s name to rip others off, it's no wonder Christianity gets a bad rap! So, how do we help break down that barrier so our friends and neighbors can come to saving faith? There are plenty of world religions that claim to speak for God, but have never been able to back up their claims. So what sets Christianity apart? Be careful that something tragic in your past doesn’t cause you to bring cynicism into your relationship with God.
