Mike Fabarez: One of the simple and serious warnings found in the Bible is this: that God is opposed to the proud. The remedy for this dangerous pride, according to the Scripture, is the humble fear of the Lord.
This humble awareness that our merciful Savior is also our omnipotent and omniscient Father is what holds us accountable here on Earth. Of course, fear doesn't harmonize well with the popular misconceptions of people on a quest for a God made only of love.
But Psalm 25:14 says, "The friendship of the Lord is with those who fear him." So let's fight the subtle temptations of arrogance and pride and self-promotion by humbly drawing near to God in fervent fear of the Lord.
