Mike Fabarez: When you picture a battleground, gentleness and respect aren't likely the adjectives that come to mind. And yet, in 1 Peter chapter 3, verse 15, we are commanded to defend the gospel with gentleness and respect.
Our discussions with non-believers can quickly turn into some kind of bloody battlefield with heated arguments peppering belittling insults, but we need to resist that urge. God expects his ambassadors to stay in control of their emotions. God expects us to maintain a godly decorum that is worthy of our stately king.
Christ's victory is already settled. His triumphant return is not dependent on a frenzied effort or some kind of red-faced debate on our part. So, don't attempt to defend his honor in some kind of dishonorable way. Keep your cool. Let your defense be seasoned with the courteous dignity that befits God's royal family.
