Mike Fabarez: Spiritual growth requires humility. There's no doubt about that. In order to grow deeper, we've got to humbly recognize our need for truth and then respectfully embrace the clear teaching of God's Word. When we do, then we're led in what is right and God teaches us his way according to Psalm 25:9.
But when we fall to pride, we resist sound doctrine and we become a lot like those false teachers that Peter and Jude warned of, distorting God's Word and boldly dismissing the wisdom of God.
Practicing humility doesn't come naturally and it's not easy. It requires a lot of painful self-assessment. We must be willing to face our sinfulness and deal with our imperfections. So let us have God humble our hearts and minds so that we can readily receive and apply his truth.
