In what ways are you controlling your husband and kids? Karen Ehman and Nicole Unice, controlling over-comers, talk about the very real temptation to control your kids so they’ll live happy lives and stay on a good path.  However, Karen and Nicole remind us that parenting is all about training your children to make wise choices and eventually working yourself out of a job. At home, who gets their way most of the time? Is it you? Author Karen Ehman, a self-professed controller, talks about her courtship with “Foxy Todd” and the inevitable nuptials that followed.  Things went well, she says, as long as they did things her way, but she realized it wasn’t a true partnership. Nicole Unice also chimes in on the issue, sharing how tempting it is to tell her husband how to drive or where to park, but has learned to defer to her husband’s wisdom and respect him as the man he is.

Do you always feel the need to be in control?  Recovering controllers Nicole Unice and Karen Ehman believe that the root of control is fear or pride. We either just “want what we want when we want it” or we are so afraid we won’t be safe or significant if we don’t control the outcome of our circumstances.  Women are great multi-taskers, Karen admits, but that ability to take care of many things at once can also leave them frazzled. Husbands can help their wives put life in context and encourage them to be okay with less than perfect.

Evangelism sounds so hard. But it doesn’t have to be. Amy Lively, creator of The Neighborhood Café,  encourages listeners to love their neighbors in a whole new way by inviting them into their homes.  Amy recalls the season when God broke her heart for her neighbors and prompted her to start a neighborhood bible study. Resisting at first, she eventually gave in, and what transpired  was life-changing. It is possible, Amy assures us, to love your neighbors without being weird, and today Amy tells you how.
