Victory Through Brokenness part 1

It all starts with brokenness, and today pastor Al Pittman will show us what brokenness looks like through the Psalmist’s beautiful expression of trust “He is my refuge and my fortress; My God, in Him I will trust”.

God is always at work in the midst of our circumstances - even when it doesn’t seem like He is. When Paul and Barnabas had a disagreement in Acts fifteen, they departed from each other and went their separate ways. At first glance, this seems like a very unfortunate incident - until you realize that God suddenly had two missionary teams spreading the Gospel instead of just one.

As a matter of fact, we know that sometimes quite the opposite is true. Trials and afflictions come our way, but how do we deal with them? Today we’ll again open our Bibles to the book of Psalms, as we look at Psalm eighty-nine, beginning in verse thirty-four.

Pastor Al Pittman will continue his verse by verse series through the Psalms today, with another look at Psalm eighty-nine. Here we see the Psalmist remembering God’s covenant with King David, and a sorrow over lost blessings. Maybe as we come to you today, you feel as though there is little to nothing to be thankful for. Your life is a mess, people are being cruel to you, your job is being threatened, and you’re in debt up to your ears. Well, the good news is that in Christ there is something to be thankful for.

Here, we are again witness to the praise the Psalmist has for God’s goodness, His mercy, and His protective love for His people. I’m sure there are times is your life when you experienced God’s protection. Maybe you can look back at a time in your life when it was as clear as day that God saved you from serious injury or even death!

We’re making our way through the Book of Acts right now and today we’ll focus our attention on chapters fifteen and sixteen. We’ll see that the Lord used Paul to lead people to salvation, but Paul also recognized the importance of following Jesus’ model of discipleship. Jesus poured Himself into twelve men who, in turn, poured themselves into the world.

Although Psalm eighty-seven is one of the shortest Psalms, at just seven verses, it deserves attention for it’s mighty proclamation of God’s goodness and protection of His people.
