The Psalms Are For Praise pt 2

February 21, 2023

Today marks the end of a lengthy, enjoyable, and profitable journey for us as we put the finishing touches on our study of the Psalms.  It ends in grand fashion with triumphant praise to God, and that’s a fitting note to end on I’m sure you’d agree. We started this journey through the Psalms in May of last year, and if you’ve been with us all along, I am sure you’ve been blessed by the study of these great verses of poetry and praise. Here’s pastor Al with our final study in the Psalms.

You and I are great creations as well. We’ve been created to praise and worship God, and the sooner we realize and do that, the better off we’ll be!  For our purpose in life will never be realized until we do what we’ve been created for.  Pastor Al Pittman takes us now to Psalm 145, a Psalm of praise.

What should the goal of the Church be?  The answer is….. love.  And it’s brought about in part by the patient, persistent preaching and teaching of the word.   Love for the word and for God’s people is essential to accomplish this, and God promises to give it.  A classic example of this is the ministry of the apostle Paul.  And that’s what we’ll be covering today on The Dwelling Place.

We’re nearing the end of our journey through the Psalms and in this message we receive a call to praise and worship God. When you think about it, it almost should embarrass us that we have to be reminded to praise God. After all, where would we be without Him?

Today we find ourselves in Psalm 143 where the Lord is praised for His goodness.  Maybe as we find you today you feel as though there is little to nothing to be thankful for.  Well, the good news is that in Christ there is something to be thankful for.

Today on The Dwelling Place we’ll see when the going got tough for David, he went to the Lord!  And that’s the right place to turn as we’re about to see.  Maybe this is a difficult season of life for you right now, and if so, keep listening as a sea of encouragement from God’s Word is straight ahead.

What’s the root cause to our economic and social problems? In a word, it’s idols.  Oh, I know we don’t consider ourselves idol worshippers, but the evidence says otherwise. Join pastor A Pittman in Acts chapter nineteen.

King David wrote this psalm at a difficult time in his life. Yet, his prayer here is that the Lord would make him humble. Humility is a dying commodity today, isn’t it? But God honors humility in His children. Let’s get a little serving of humble pie today, shall we?

Today we will look at Psalm 140, and if I had to describe what David is getting at in this Psalm, I would say “attitude adjustment”. As Christians, we should be different than the world - and the world should notice the difference. We should represent our faith in Christ in tangible ways.
