The Defiant Ones part 2

October 28, 2019

If you saw a headline that said one third of the world’s population was being killed, would you believe it? Well, as we’ll find out today, it’s going to happen, because the Bible says so, in Revelation chapter nine. It’s a sad time, and yet we as believers can take heart in knowing that through God’s Grace, we won’t be there to suffer through it.

Our scripture text is in Revelation chapter nine as we continue our verse by verse study of the last book in the Bible. If you’ve read ahead, you know that we’re going to get a crash course in end times Entomology. Entomology is the study of insect life, but it’s safe to say that no scientist has ever encountered the hoard of Locusts that will invade the earth as described in Revelation chapter nine.

It’s not much fun to study the terrible fate that awaits the earth during the tribulation, but we certainly need to see it and understand it for two very good reasons. First, it’s part of God’s word, and secondly, if we understand what will happen during this time of upheaval, it will certainly be an inspiration to us to avoid being around when it takes place! Today we’ll bring you the second half of a message Pastor Al began on yesterday’s program called “Delayed Judgement Released”.

Pastor Al Pittman. Al is currently leading us through a verse by verse examination of the last book in the Bible, Revelation. Today’s message is titled “Delayed Judgement Released”. What begins to happen in Revelation chapter eight signals the beginning of the end for this world. Of course, as born again believers in Jesus Christ, we won’t be around for the terror and destruction signaled by these trumpets. That’s the good news found in an otherwise dark and dreary picture painted in this section of Revelation.

As we continue our study of Revelation today, we’ll focus once again on the two groups of people who will be able to stand during the awful tribulation period. The first group is the numbered multitude - the one hundred forty four thousand Jews. The second group being the unnumbered multitude of people who are saved during the tribulation. This section of Revelation has long been a source of speculation and controversy, but Pastor Al’s insights today will hopefully clear up some of the questions you have about the claims you have heard.

As we move to chapter seven in our verse by verse study through Revelation today,  we see a time out. Pastor Al has titled today’s message “Remnant of Mercy”. In chapter six we’ve seen the vision of coming death and destruction, and in chapter eight, another wave of judgment begins, but in chapter seven we have a break, and a question is asked.

We’re in the midst of a fascinating look at the last book in the Bible, Revelation. What will occur when the vision given to John comes to fruition will truly be history’s last chapter, and the facts surrounding the tribulation, the antichrist and Armageddon are frightening to behold. However, as believers, we’re not going to have to suffer the consequences.

In Revelation chapter six we see the arrival of the so-called four horsemen of the Apocalypse. The first two will bring war, the third will bring famine and the fourth will bring widespread death and destruction. That doesn’t sound like much of a party does it? Well the good news for believers in Jesus Christ is that we won’t be around to experience these terrible occurrences.

The Bible paints such an incredible picture of what it will be like! And with that in mind it would be a huge disappointment to not have our loved ones there, as well. As we have heard pastor Al Pittman say many times, we need to share the Good News with them so that they, too, can enjoy fellowship with God.

In Reveltion chapter five, we continue our study of the future. With so many false prophets claiming to know the future, isn’t it great to know that we have the inerrant, infallible, and completely reliable Word of God as our source for correct information?

We’re beginning to get a clear picture of what awaits us in Heaven, and what the routine is going to be like there. We’ve all wondered that at one time or another, and we’ll find out today that the routine in Heaven will be anything but routine! Do you enjoy giving praise to the Lord? Well, as the old saying goes, you ain’t seen nothin’ yet!

In 1973, when Al was seventeen years old, the family returned from a tour in Germany and settled in Colorado Springs. Soon after, Al realized God’s call on  his life and began serving in the music ministry as a bass guitarist with a Christian band  called, “The Rays of Light.” It was during this time that Al met Norma, and they were married on July 19, 1975.

Al attended Nazarene Bible College in Colorado Springs, graduating in 1977 with a degree in Biblical Studies. In 1991 Al and his family moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico, and two years later he joined the staff of Calvary Chapel Albuquerque as an assistant pastor and co-worship leader. In the spring of 1997 the Lord called Al and his family back to Colorado Springs to pastor Calvary Worship Center. In 2006, Al earned his Master’s degree and in 2012 he earned his Doctorate degree in Ministry from Trinity Southwest University in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
