Thanksgiving and Praise part 2

This is The Dwelling Place, with Pastor Al Pittman, from Calvary Worship Center. Our study through the Psalms takes us to Psalm 103. David wrote this Psalm as a tribute to God’s loving kindness and His wonderful mercy. When we think of God, do we sometimes forget how merciful He is?

Happy Thanksgiving Day! Feel like singing a well known hymn today? Feel like studying a great chapter from the bible? We’re going to do both today here on the Dwelling Place, with pastor Al Pittman. We are continuing Al’s series in the Psalms today with a stop in Psalm 103. The first several verses of this psalm are very familiar to those of us who love singing great hymns of praise.

Next on The Dwelling Place we return to our study of the Psalms, and in Psalm 102, we hear a call for justice, and see the abundance of God’s mercy, love and forgiveness poured out on His people. The Psalms provide many examples of the wonderful love God has for us, and it’s always a good thing to be reminded that He loves us so much, He gave up His most precious possession - His son - to die for our sins.

God is in the business of refining us, and teaching us to trust in Him, and in the long run, we will be much better off for the struggles we go through. So if you feel a bit disheartened today, stay with us, as pastor Al will offer some encouragement to hang in there and realize that almighty God is in control!

We’re in the middle of Al’s study of the Psalms right now, and we’ll be turning to Psalm 102 for an intriguing study on the goodness of God. As we look around the world today, we see storms, famine, war, terrorism, and bad people prospering. As we see this, it would be easy for us to scratch our head in confusion, and wonder why. The Psalmist went through this struggle, as we’re about to see.

Most missionaries would tell you that it doesn’t take an extraordinary person to be a missionary - it takes a calling of God upon your life. This would be true of the Apostle Paul and we’ll look to Acts sixteen today as we continue to glean insights from his second missionary journey. Many people prefer to think of God as simply a “cosmic presence” or an “aura”, but He is the one who created you and me in His image!
