Romans 7:1-13 part 1

July 9, 2019

Moses gave three hundred sixty five prohibitions and two hundred forty eight positive commands. David reduced them to eleven in the Psalms, Isaiah made them six, Micah binds them into three commands, and finally Habakkuk reduces them all to one great statement: The just shall live by faith. Living by faith has great freedom, but it also has great responsibilities. We’re in Romans seven, and today pastor Al underscores the freedom we have from the law.

Slavery has been a part of mankind's existance for almost as long as we have existed. That is an unfortunate truth. For the Christian, we may not be completely free from sin, but we are no longer slaves to it. There is indeed a difference. Join us in Romans six, verse fifteen,

Contrary to what many think - sin is still mankind’s greatest problem! And no matter what kind of religion or philosophy a person has, if it doesn’t deal with sin - what good is it?  Romans chapter six, verses one through eleven, deals with our sin problem in a definitive and liberating way. It tells us that as Christians, we’re to count on the great reality that we are “dead to sin and alive to God.”

When Jesus volunteered Himself as the ultimate sin sacrifice for all of mankind, He achieved in one fell swoop what mankind could never achieve on our own: ultimate redemption and freedom from sin! Now, that’s something to rejoice in, and so let’s do that today on The Dwelling Place!

Have you ever thought about what this world would be like if Adam had not sinned in the Garden? It was all downhill from there, wasn’t it? We were redeemed from that original sin , and every sin we commit, by the death of Christ on the cross. All we have to do is accept that wonderful gift!

When you think about it, it’s a lot easier to do the wrong thing because we are so free, rather than choose to not do that wrong thing. Being justified in Christ carries with it many blessings, one of which is freedom. How we choose to exercise that freedom speaks volumes about our character and walk with the Lord.

Romans is a how-to guide for effective Christian living. Again we’re uncovering the wonderful blessings of justification found in chapter five of Romans. Justification has been broken down into a very easy to remember form, just-as-if-we had never sinned!

Having wrapped up chapter four last time, we now move into chapter five, and underscore The Blessings of Justification. Justification is a central tenet of the Christian faith. We have been justified through the blood of Christ, and we can have certainty that we indeed will be in eternity in heaven with our wonderful savior!

It's the absolute foundational truth of our salvation. We are sabved by faith and faith alone, through God's grace. Nothing we "do" can save us. We are justified through the death of Christ on the cross. Join us in Romans, chapter four, as we seek to understand Justification by Faith.

Many people are under the impression that good works save us.  And maybe that’s what you believe today. We invite you to join us for The Dwelling Place, as we look into this whole matter of justification.  We can’t afford to get this wrong, so let’s join pastor Al Pittman and turn to the truth of God’s Word for the right answer, in Romans chapter four.

We are saved by grace through faith in Jesus Christ alone. While you may understand that, your neighbor down the street likely doesn’t.  And they desperately need to hear it. We’re in the midst of a study through Romans and we’ll complete our look at chapter three today, as we join pastor Al and see Paul’s defense of Justification.
