Romans 2:12-29 part 1

Pastor Al Pittman has been steadily making his way through the Book of Romans in verse by verse fashion. We pick up today in chapter two, where Paul addresses the attitudes of some of the Jews, who felt a sense of superiority over others. As we’ll see today, this kind of attitude is very common today as well, although it has no place in the life of a believer.

Pastor Al is in the midst of a study of Romans and we’ll join him today in chapter one. One of the big issues of our day centers around the practice of homosexuality. Many people, including some Christians, accept it as a normal lifestyle and perfectly acceptable. But what we should be concerned with is what the Bible has to say on the subject.

The apostle Paul made no secret of the fact that the Christians in Rome held a special place in his heart. Though surrounded by the snares of the world, they remained a solid, God-believing church - not an easy task at all. Can the same be said for the Christian church in 2019?

There’s a popular saying among pastors concerning sermons. It goes something like this. “Tell them what you’re going to tell them, then tell them, and finally, tell them what you told them.” The apostle Paul employs this method in his writing of Romans. Having already introduced himself, he will now give a basic introduction explaining what’s ahead of us in the coming chapters of this fascinating book.

Many well known religions acknowledge that Jesus Christ was a good teacher - perhaps even a prophet - but they often deny His deity. However, the truth of the Scriptures shows them to be wrong. The book of Romans does not pull any punches when it describes Jesus as who He really is - God in human flesh. Romans also serves as a tutorial on how to effectively live out our faith.

Today we begin delving into the Book of Romans. It should be noted as we begin, that Romans is considered by many bible scholars to be one of the top three most important books in the bible. Many rate it number one! In Chapter one we are introduced to the apostle Paul, who exemplifies this great work of God for a man, in a man, and through a man.
