Psalm 31-32

Today we wrap up pastor Al’s look at Psalm thirty-one. This Psalm is written by David as a plea to God to protect him from those who sought to kill him. I suppose there are people who think they can handle any situation on their own, That’s called “moxie” by a lot of people, but it’s foolishness to think we can escape the efforts of our enemies without the power of almighty God!

Persecution is a struggle for us all! No one likes to be hated or thought poorly of, that’s for sure. But the world hated Jesus and as His followers it will hate us too. How do we handle this? The persecution of God’s people is an ages-old problem. Psalm thirty-one is a case in point. God helps his people – not just when persecuted – but through all kinds of struggles.

We’ll meet you in Psalm thirty today. In this Psalm, David writes of how he fell into the sin of self-reliance and God’s loving response. It’s very helpful to learn how God, in His love, turns David back from self-reliance to relying on the Lord.

Pastor Al is currently taking us on a wonderful journey through the Psalms, and today we’ll stop once again in Psalm twenty-nine. God’s voice is portrayed as a powerful thunderstorm here. It’s only but a mere example. For the power of God’s voice is far greater.

Psalm twenty-eight is a prayer that begins with a plea for an answer. It points out the same struggle you and I have in waiting on the Lord. And in this Psalm we’ll be encouraged that God does hear our prayers.
