Psalm 1 part 1

January 21, 2020

Today on The Dwelling Place, we’ll begin an journey through the wonderful Old Testament book of Psalms. Over the course of history, many beautiful and emotional songs have been written and recited, but none can compare with the beauty and outpouring of love we’ll see. There are one hundred fifty of these beautiful expressions of man’s love for God and heartfelt prayers. Some are better known that others, but they all deserve our scrutiny.

Every one of us needs encouragement from time to time. There is no better place to turn to for encouragement than the bible, and today we will look at Romans chapter five. Our sin keeps us from an eternity with God. It’s like an unreachable wall that serrated us from God and His love. How can we break down that wall? We can’t, and we don’t have to because Jesus already did.

Being justified in Christ carries with it many blessings, one of which is freedom. How we choose to exercise that freedom speaks volumes about our character and walk with the Lord. Join us now in Romans five, as pastor Al brings us a message titled “The Great Offense”.

It’s wonderfully encouraging to be reminded of God’s unfailing love. Though we may fail in our love - God never fails in His! We all know the story of Peter’s denial but that’s not the end of the story. The Lord restoring Peter is a great example of God never giving up on us. And we’ll be reminded of that today. We’ll see how Peter is restored in his relationship as evidenced by his humble response to Jesus.

If you set out to become prosperous and successful you may achieve your goal and live to regret it. Learning to follow Jesus and do what He has called us-- now that’s success no matter what people may think! That’s an important lesson to learn and one we’ll explore today on The Dwelling Place with pastor Al Pittman. The topic is really restoration, and pastor Al will share with us four ways we can be restored in Christ.

We’ve all experienced saying something that later we wished we hadn’t... whether it be a curse word, or something that hurt another a great deal.  It’s amazing how such a small part of the body can have such a large impact.  No wonder James likens it to a fire!  Let’s see now how we can use it for good rather than evil.

Today on The Dwelling Place, we bring you a very relevant study of James, and we’ll be reminded of the power of words. They have the power to motivate millions of people to hang tough in a difficult situation, and they have the ability to cut a person to ribbons. Pastor Al Pittman is our teacher, and today he’ll show us what James has to say on the subject of the responsibility of being a teacher, and the power of the unbridled tongue.

The goal for the Olympic competitor is, of course, the Gold Medal. So let me ask you this: what’s your goal as you run the race of life? Many people equate success with money, homes, cars and things like that, but those things don’t last, as we all know. So what should our goal be? That’s the question pastor Al will answer today as we look at Hebrews chapter twelve

On today’s The Dwelling Place broadcast pastor Al Pittman begins a look at the race we call life. Many people today think that there are shortcuts to be found when running the race of life. That’s unfortunate, because often times we discover too late that the shortcut leads to a dead end. God has a great game plan for us to follow - and it’s called the Bible.

We Christians may be pretty good at explaining our faith to others, but often times we’re not real good at putting that faith into action. You know who really notices that? God. He’s shown a light for us to follow - in faith. He also did the same thing for the Israelites fleeing Egypt in Exodus fourteen.

On today’s program, we’ll open our Bibles to Exodus chapter thirteen, for a study that once again reminds us that there’s no greater protection to be found in this world than the protective arms of God. As God lead the Israelites out of Egypt, He showed them the way in a clear and distinct manner. Even today, God is showing the way with the bright light of His love and Word.

Al attended Nazarene Bible College in Colorado Springs, graduating in 1977 with a degree in Biblical Studies. In 1991 Al and his family moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico, and two years later he joined the staff of Calvary Chapel Albuquerque as an assistant pastor and co-worship leader. In the spring of 1997 the Lord called Al and his family back to Colorado Springs to pastor Calvary Worship Center. In 2006, Al earned his Master’s degree and in 2012 he earned his Doctorate degree in Ministry from Trinity Southwest University in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
