Our Governing Authority Part 1

February 18, 2019

Well today we enter into a discussion about the Christian and government.  We arrive at chapter thirteen of Romans on this day, as we continue making our way verse by verse through this remarkable epistle.  Pastor Al Pittman will show us how we are to live under any government, and what our response to it is to be.

With all the disharmony in the world and even in the Church - is there any answer? Can we live in harmony? We certainly can, but only by the power of God’s love. So what gets in the way of us exploiting God’s power to love one another? For starters pride hinders the kind of love that’s required. For love is not partial. Today’s message from pastor Al is so vitally important, because as we look around us, we can see a world that is seriously lacking in brotherly love.

Last time we covered a good portion of chapter twelve, and we were encouraged to be a healthy body of believers.  Right on the heels of that admonition, the apostle Paul goes on to speak about loving without hypocrisy, and abhorring what is evil.  Pastor Al will show us today just how important it is that we displayed Godly love to not only one another, but to those who persecute us as well.

Pastor Al Pittman is leading a study of Romans right now, and today underscores chapter twelve and verses three through nine.  Getting along with each other is what this section of Romans is all about. Paul felt fellowship and love was so important that he included it in several of his letters. The body of Christ should be a body of love and respect. Al begins in the epistle of James, chapter three.

We’ve been studying the Book of Romans lately and we’ll be zeroing in on chapter twelve today. In this chapter, Paul not only teaches us how to effectively live out our faith in a world that is often hostile to the Gospel message, but he also provides us with some great insight into how to interact with one another as fellow believers in the body of Christ.

Our pastor and teacher, Al Pittman, takes us to the Book of Romans today, and we find ourselves in chapter twelve. As we read Paul’s words to the Christians in Rome, we’ll uncover the truth about how to be perfected in Christ and discover God’s will for our lives along the way

We’re about to enter a very practical and challenging section of Romans, chapter twelve.

God made promises to Israel and He will fulfill them all. This is reassuring, because God has made promises to us too! This is The Dwelling Place. Pastor Al Pittman takes us to Romans today, with a look at chapter eleven. We’ll  learn that the miracle of the re-gathering of Israel is only the beginning of what’s in store for them.

Throughout the Bible, the people of Israel consistently rejected Jesus as the Messiah. So, in response, has God given up on the nation of Israel?   Some suggest He has. But in Romans, chapter eleven, the apostle Paul says otherwise.  We’re about to see how God feels about His chosen people, and you’ll be greatly encouraged as we place the spotlight on the grace and patience of our Lord.  Here’ pastor Al Pittman in Romans eleven.

The nation of Israel was re-established in 1948. We can clearly see that in the year 2019, much of Israel has rejected Jesus as Messiah. We read in the bible that God has temporarily set the nation of Israel aside, until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in.  At that time, all Israel will be saved.  Romans eleven will emphasize this glorious truth, that God isn’t done with the Jews.

Pastor Al Pittman is in the middle of a study in Romans, and the plan today is to spotlight chapter eleven. In chapter ten, we were talking about Israel’s stubborn refusal to believe in Christ, and so a logical question on the heals of that is, “Is God through with them as a nation?”  Far from it.  The Lord has a wonderful plan to reach Israel, and chapter eleven makes that clear to us.

Al attended Nazarene Bible College in Colorado Springs, graduating in 1977 with a degree in Biblical Studies. In 1991 Al and his family moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico, and two years later he joined the staff of Calvary Chapel Albuquerque as an assistant pastor and co-worship leader. In the spring of 1997 the Lord called Al and his family back to Colorado Springs to pastor Calvary Worship Center.
