Legacy Preserved part 2

April 28, 2023

It’s been observed that we hold tight to what is most important... and we will let go of those things that don’t matter. But sometimes - we let go of what should be the most important to us. There are some things we should never let go! Pastor Al will give us encouragement to hold fast to the Lord and His word - from Joshua chapters twenty-one through  twenty-three.

Today we continue with Al’s verse by verse series through Joshua. We are nearing the end of our series, and today as we look at chapter twenty-one, we see a long list of property that was given by Joshua to other people groups. Why is this important? We’ll find out today.

Consider this: every human being is made in God’s own image and He loves and cares about every single one of us! I mention this because today’s message from pastor Al Pittman on The Dwelling Place, concerns significance - or a lack there of. Our scripture reference is Joshua eighteen through twenty.

Today we’ll continue pastor Al’s series through Joshua, and the topic today will be complacency. That’s a very dangerous word. There’s no doubt that complacency played a role in the terror attacks in 2001. That’s an extreme example, but complacency in the Christian life can be dangerous as well. Turn to the book of Joshua as we join pastor Al Pittman for today’s study

Today, Pastor Al takes us back to the Old Testament book of Joshua.  In chapters fifteen through twenty, we see, among other things, a complaint from the Israelites and Joshua’s reply.  The Canaanites were an enemy of Israel, and Joshua urged his people to drive them out of the land.  Pastor Al will show us how the Canaanites are much like sin.  Sin is our enemy and it must be driven out of our lives.

Today we’ll return to pastor Al’s verse by verse study through Acts, with a stop in chapter twenty two. With all the “Judge” shows on TV and all of the high profile criminal trials we see going on, we’re made aware of the importance of a good defense. Here in Acts twenty two, Paul puts on an eloquent defense of his ministry and beliefs, even though he doesn’t have a law degree!

Following God’s will is a tough thing, isn’t it? In the first place, we often times don’t know what God’s will is. Then, we wonder what God must be thinking if He really thinks I can do what He wants me to do! Here in Joshua fifteen, we again are reminded that God’s will is the best way to go – and seeking it is what we should always be doing.

Today on The Dwelling Place the children of Israel will be reminded of the great victories God gave them.  And through this we pray it will spark thanksgiving in your own life as you recall the great victories God has given you by His grace.

I’m sure last Christmas reminded you that the holiday season has turned rather commercial in recent decades. It’s become a contest to see who can buy the biggest gift and spend the most money, and if Aunt Martha bought us something this year, we better make sure we get her something too. Possessions seem to be possessing us these days. What can we do?

If you have a Bible handy, feel free to follow along with us as we pick up today in chapter eleven. Christians seem to have a habit of forgetting God’s promises and we’ll see an example of this in today’s message, originally shared on July fourth of last year.

Today pastor Al Pittman takes us to Joshua eleven, as we see once again God’s strength and power at work in Joshua and his army - it’s a campaign of liberation. Today’s message was originally shared on July fourth of last year.

Soon after, Al realized God’s call on  his life and began serving in the music ministry as a bass guitarist with a Christian band  called, “The Rays of Light.” It was during this time that Al met Norma, and they were married on July 19, 1975.

Al attended Nazarene Bible College in Colorado Springs, graduating in 1977 with a degree in Biblical Studies. In 1991 Al and his family moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico, and two years later he joined the staff of Calvary Chapel Albuquerque as an assistant pastor and co-worship leader. In the spring of 1997 the Lord called Al and his family back to Colorado Springs to pastor Calvary Worship Center. In 2006, Al earned his Master’s degree and in 2012 he earned his Doctorate degree in Ministry from Trinity Southwest University in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Al and Norma are the proud parents of three children, Renee, Nathan and Reggie, as well as proud grandparents.
