Colossians 1:15-18 part 1

March 22, 2019

Today pastor Al begins a study centered on the most important question every human being must answer - who is Jesus Christ to you?  It was nearly 2,000 years ago that God came to earth in human flesh, but what does that mean for you and me today?  We’ll seek to answer those question as we turn in our Bibles to Colossians chapter one. We’ll be concentrating over the next two broadcasts on verses fifteen through eighteen.

What happens when the initial euphoria of becoming a Christian wears away and we face the ups and downs of everyday life? That’s what we’ll talk about today on The Dwelling Place. with Al Pittman.  Our scripture reference is Colossians chapter one. Paul wrote this letter to a church that had fallen victim to false teaching. The same false teaching that’s going on today.

Pastor Al Pittman  begins a study through  the book of Colossians today.  God has a marvelous plan to save mankind, and He chooses to use vessels like you and me to accomplish this. What a privilege that is!  Pastor Al will encourage us to be used of God and help spread the gospel.  Our reference point is Colossians 1 and verses one through fourteen.

After several months of study in this glorious book of Romans, we finish it all up today.  And talk about finishing on a high note... it couldn’t get any higher than the glory of God.  In the closing verses we find a wonderful doxology that spotlights God’s wisdom and glory.  And through it all, Al will ask us, “Is the glory of God the theme of our lives?”

We’re on the final leg of our journey through Romans, as we’ve reached the sixteenth and final chapter of the book. Paul mentions thirty three people by name in the chapter.  Most of them we know very little about. Paul’s love for people comes shining through in this passage.  It really speaks volumes about how the church today should be one large and loving family.

Today on The Dwelling Place, we’ll examine the best way to communicate with God the Father, through our representative, Jesus Christ. Pastor Al Pittman is currently sharing a series in the awesome book of Romans and today we again look at chapter fifteen, and how we display our faith in God through prayer. Prayer is a wonderful gift from God - if we actually use it!

When you break prayer down to it’s bare essence, what we’re doing is talking with God. But as with so many other parts of our relationship with God, there is a right way and a wrong way to pray. Do you know the difference? Too many people have the wrong motivation when they pray. Should we be trying to bet God too see things our way..... or should it be the other way around? Our scripture reference is Romans chapter fifteen.

Bible scholars consistently rank Romans in the top three or four most significant books in the bible, and one of the reason is it’s practicality. These words were written two millenniums ago, yet are spot on for Christian living in 2019. As we again look at the ways our faith can minister to others, pastor Al will talk about benevolence - being kind and generous to others.
March 13, 2019
Pastor Al will spend the next four broadcasts discussing the ways we can use our faith to minister to others. First of all, we can be benevolent. That’s a word that isn’t used a lot these days, but the dictionary defines benevolence as being “well-meaning and kindly”. How does that translate to a demonstration of our faith?

Pastor Al Pittman will bring us another message today taken from his series through the book of Romans. Today we will be in chapter fifteen, verses twenty-two through twenty-five. The providence of God is the topic, and we certainly live in a world where God’s all encompassing power is questioned and rejected by many people. Well, the fact is, mankind’s opinion about God’s providence has nothing to do with the fact that God is in control of everything!

Today on The Dwelling Place, we open to Romans fifteen, where the apostle Paul is about to lay out his plans for future ministry . Pastor Al Pittman has noticed a few principles we can glean from God’s providence in our lives, and he’ll share those momentarily.  We’re getting close to the finish line here in our study of Romans.  No travel guide is needed for this trip, just an open Bible and an open heart to allow the Spirit to lead.

Al attended Nazarene Bible College in Colorado Springs, graduating in 1977 with a degree in Biblical Studies. In 1991 Al and his family moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico, and two years later he joined the staff of Calvary Chapel Albuquerque as an assistant pastor and co-worship leader. In the spring of 1997 the Lord called Al and his family back to Colorado Springs to pastor Calvary Worship Center. In 2006, Al earned his Master’s degree and in 2012 he earned his Doctorate degree in Ministry from Trinity Southwest University in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
