Blessed For Success Part 5 - Sardis Part 1

November 4, 2020

If you remember those old monster movies from the fifties, there were several that featured “zombies”...dead bodies that had been made to walk around causing havoc. Well, “zombies” might very well be an accurate way of describing the members of the church in Sardis, and that’s why the Lord gave them a stern message in the form of a letter.

Without the ability to recognize false teachings, the church of Jesus Christ will eventually be corrupted with all sorts of idol worship, pagan rituals and other assorted sacrilege. That’s precisely what’s going on here as we study this section of scripture. Thyatira has been seduced by a false teacher named Jezebel.

Today on The Dwelling Place,  Pastor Al Pittman continues his study of the book of Revelation, as we reach the Lord’s letter to the church in Thyatira. These Christians had a lot going for them, but they also had some problem areas...  and one of them was growth.

As we continue our study of the seven letters to the seven churches of Revelation today, we look again at the compromise of the church of Pergamum.  Opportunities for compromise are everywhere today, and as believers, we must not only beware of them, but we must understand the consequences of succumbing to them.

Satan is on the prowl, and looking for those he can devour.  It’s interesting to note that he used the same methods to attack the church back in the first century as he does now.  One of the primary ways he attacks the church is through bad doctrine, as we’re about to discover today on the broadcast.

Just as the church of Ephesus lost their first love, some fall into that same trap today.  There is much mayhem around us these days, and it’s easy to see how we can put God lower on our priority list. The good news for those that have is there is a remedy, and pastor Al Pittman will reveal the solution today.

Today we’ll be looking at the Lord’s postcard to the church in Ephesus. The Ephesians were firm in their belief in the Lord as Savior, and their doctrine was strong, but they had walked away from their emotional attachment to Him.  Their love had grown cold.  It happened to the Ephesians and it’s still happening to Christians today.

Jesus warned us that the world would only get worse, as the end of the age approaches.  As natural disasters ravage the earth, false prophets mislead millions, and wars and conflicts continue, it’s not hard to see that Jesus’ words are very true!  In these last days, the Lord wants us to reflect His light.

Revelation is an often times misunderstood and a neglected book. It can be daunting, to say the least, but as we go verse by verse through these chapters, I think you’ll come away with a new found knowledge and appreciation for it.  And you’ll walk away from it learning a great deal about Jesus and who He is!  And His will and purpose for the church and you!
