Rabbi K.A. Schneider: Beloved, every single son and daughter of the Most High needs to be broken of self-reliance and self-confidence before they can truly walk in the wisdom of God. Listen to what Proverbs 28:26 says: "He who trusts in his own heart is a fool, but he who walks wisely will be delivered."

God has to break us before he can bring us into intimate fellowship with him. Jesus said, "He that abides in me will bear much fruit," but beloved, if we're trusting in our own heart, we're not going to be relying on Jesus. We're not going to abide in him if we're trusting in ourselves.

The Bible says that those that desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will go through many persecutions. A lot of the persecution that we go through is because God is teaching us not to trust in ourselves. The Apostle Paul taught this about his own life: that a messenger of Satan was given to him that he would learn not to trust in himself, but in God who raises the dead.

I want to encourage you today: if you're going through a hard time, and if you're thinking about some of the hard times you've been through in the past, understand that God is often breaking us to teach us to abide in him. Because the one that's trusting in himself is a fool, but as we learn to trust in the Lord, we take on a spirit of wisdom and we're delivered from darkness.
