More Than Lip Service

“...if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved” (Romans 10:9). “Let no unwholesome word proceed from your mouth, but only such a word as is good for edification according to the need of the moment, so that it will give grace to those who hear” (Ephesians 4:29).

Rabbi K.A. Schneider: Welcome to Seeds of Revelation, a short devotional presented by Rabbi Schneider, a Jewish believer in Jesus the Messiah.

We understand that salvation comes when we decide to follow Jesus, when we receive him as our Lord. And the Bible tells us in the book of Romans, if we confess with our mouth Jesus as Lord, I'm quoting directly out of the Word of God now. If we confess with our mouth Jesus as Lord, and, the second part here, and believe in our heart that God raised Jesus from the dead, we will be saved.

I want to focus now on that first part. If we confess with our mouth Jesus as Lord. You know, a lot of people confess with their mouth that Jesus is Lord and even say that they believe that God raised him from the dead, but they're not saved. Well, how can that be? Because the Bible just said if we confess with our mouth Jesus is Lord and believe in our heart that God raised him from the dead, will be saved.

So how can it be that you're saying, Rabbi Schneider, that someone can confess with their mouth Jesus is Lord and believe in their heart that God raised him from the dead and still not be saved?

The reason I've just said what I'm saying is because when the scripture says we have to confess with our mouth Jesus as Lord, it's just not a simple lip confession. It's a confession that is declaring the posture of our heart. To confess with our mouth Jesus as Lord scripturally, that means we're confessing, get it now, that Jesus is our master, that we have made him personally our Lord.

And Jesus said to those of his day, why do you call me Lord, Lord, and then don't do the things that I say? So we need to understand that truly having a saving relationship with Jesus means that we have relinquished control to obey him. I realize that we're all growing in obedience, but I want us to understand today that confessing Jesus as Lord is more than just a sentence that we speak with our lips. It means that we truly are obeying him.

Now, I'm going to continue next week on this because I'm going to apply what I just said now to what the book of Ephesians tells us in chapter 4, where it says, let no unwholesome word proceed out of your mouth. So if we're confessing Jesus as Lord, that means we need to make him Lord of our speech. Join me next week.

The article explains that controlling one’s speech is key to directing one’s spiritual life, using biblical imagery like a bridle and rudder to show the power of the tongue. It warns against four harmful patterns; excessive talking, careless words, negativity, and criticism, that can lead to personal and spiritual harm. By practicing intentional, positive, and restrained speech, a person can cultivate inner strength, peace, and spiritual growth.

Central to the LORD’s plan is Israel and the Jewish people.  Romans 11:11 explains that the Gentile believer has been chosen by God to bring the witness of the LORD to the Jewish people.  As this message of Yeshua is brought back to, and received by, the Jewish people, they will say, “Baruch Haba B’Shem Adonai” – “Blessed is He who comes in the Name of the LORD!” and in so doing, usher in Yeshua’s return (Matthew 23:39).

Through understanding the Old Testament and its prophetic nature, with Yeshua as its fulfillment, the viewer’s faith is strengthened, increased relationship and intimacy with the LORD is discovered, and an end-times vision of life is crystallized.  “Discovering The Jewish Jesus” is an end-times ministry, strengthening the church and calling her to be a readied bride for the return of the Bridegroom, Yeshua Ha Mashiach (Jesus The Messiah).
