It Starts With Your Heart
“Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God” (Matthew 5:8).
Rabbi K.A. Schneider: In the beatitudes, Yeshua said, "Blessed are the pure in heart for they shall see God." I notice in my own heart that I go through a battle all day long every single day. I'm really in touch with my heart. Now, not as in touch as God is with my heart, but I feel a real weight because I'm in touch with my heart. I'm monitoring every day, all day long, what's coming from my heart.
What thought am I having? What impulse am I having? What motivation am I feeling? A lot of it's good, but a lot of it's not good. What do I do when it's not good? I lift up those impulses of my heart to the Lord and I ask Him to cleanse me. I think a lot of us don't realize we need to be cleansed of evil.
Jesus said, "Blessed are the pure in heart for they shall see God." How do you become pure of heart? You become pure of heart, my beloved friends, by being cleansed of evil. Jesus taught us to pray, "Father, deliver us from evil." I want to encourage you to strive to have a pure heart. You do that first of all by becoming aware of your heart—the impulses, the thoughts, and the feelings that you're having every day, all day long.
Become aware of your heart, and then whenever you feel something in your heart that you know is not right, lift it up to the Father. Say, "Father, I know this is not right. Cleanse me of this, Lord, in Jesus' name and give me a pure heart." The more and more God cleanses you—and He loves you—the more and more He cleanses you and sanctifies you as you cooperate with Him, asking Him to deliver you from evil just as Jesus taught in the Lord's Prayer.
The more that you do that, the more sanctified you become. Guess what? The more your eyes will be able to see God's light. That's why Yeshua said, "Blessed are the pure in heart for they shall see God."
