Nehemiah 12 specifically names the gatekeepers of the city, to show that the lowliest job is important to the Lord. As the Psalm says, "I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of wickedness."

Biblically, Jerusalem is the center of world, in a geographic, spiritual, and prophetic sense. And it will be the center of God's glory in eternity—but it will be a New Jerusalem, not the city rebuilt by Nehemiah.

Jerusalem was rebuilt, but it was only sparsely occupied. The leaders were there, but they needed more citizens—for trade and for security. They drew lots for who would live in the city, as a kind of "tithe" of people.

After seeing the empty tomb, the women were told to go and tell His disciples. The message is the same for us: Go and tell. Go and tell what you have seen, how your life has changed, what Jesus has done for you.
March 18, 2008
The angel at the tomb told the women to "come and see" where Jesus had been. The tomb showed the humility of Christ, the reality of sin, the mortality of men, and—most importantly—Jesus' victory over death.

There is a difference between remorse and repentance. Remorse is merely recognizing your sins and feeling bad about them. Repentance is more. It is a determination to change, to leave the sins behind and obey the Lord.
