Abram and Lot parted ways, because there wasn’t enough grazing land for all their herds. Lot saw what the world could offer. Abram was concerned with what God wanted.

Abraham and his nephew Lot are a study in contrast. Abram was the “friend of God.” Lot was a friend of the world. Lot was like a lot of people today…he tried to lean on someone else’s faith.

When Abram disobeyed God by going to Egypt, there were repercussions that affected him and everyone around him. God’s way is always best, even when it’s hard!

When Abram encountered hardship in the Promised Land, he went on to Egypt. In the Bible, Egypt is often used as a picture of the world, and of trusting in human resources.

God commanded Abram to make a break with his past. And Abram responded by obeying in faith. That pattern should be the same for us today.

When Abram left the land of Mesopotamia, he didn’t completely obey God at first. He was still a fledgling believer, and his first steps of faith were faltering ones.
