Nehemiah wanted leaders for the people, and he looked for men who were loyal, faithful, and reverential. Reverence, or fear of the Lord, is a humble submission to God, a love for Him, and a desire not to displease Him.

When ridicule didn't discourage Nehemiah and the people of Jerusalem from rebuilding the wall, their enemies conspired to attack openly. The response of the people? They kept on praying, but they also kept watch day and night.
February 26, 2008
Nehemiah's enemies ridiculed the building of the wall, but people of God merely prayed and kept on working. We should always let God do the retaliating because He takes it personally when His people are attacked.
