The Apostle Paul is preaching on his first missionary journey, and he faces strong opposition, to the point of being stoned and left for dead by the religious authorities. And this was not a unique experience—over his life, Paul was beaten many times for his boldness for Christ, and he also suffered through shipwrecks, hunger, and many kinds of danger.

A council of the early church discussed the difference between Jewish and Gentile believers in Jesus Christ. It decreed that the Word teaches Gentiles aren't under the law, but they shouldn't use their freedom to cause others to stumble. The grace of God should cause His followers to be gracious.

While Paul and Barnabas returned from their first missionary journey, they found the church at Jerusalem was being divided. Certain believers were saying that new converts had to follow the laws of Moses as well as believing in Christ. This question still rings today: Is faith in Jesus Christ enough for salvation, or does God require something more in addition?
