Maintaining an attitude of thanksgiving in our lives shows we truly believe that God is good. It also shows that our lives are in balance—that our communication with the Lord is not all about our wants and our needs.

They say that prayer changes things. But there are times when prayer just doesn't work, when heaven is silent. God looks upon prayer as a matter of the heart, and He has said that he will not hear our prayers when we have unconfessed sin in our lives.

God established prayer as an avenue of communication with Him, so that we can share in what He wants to do. The purpose of prayer is not to get our will done, but to get God's will done on earth—and in the process, to give us the peace that passes understanding.
