It's been said that Israel is the center of the world, Jerusalem the center of Israel, and the temple the center of Jerusalem. So in Matthew 24 when Jesus said the temple would be destroyed, it was a startling prediction for His disciples.

Paul the apostle was a very determined man, but his determination was a result of God's calling to preach the gospel. Rather than being driven by a desire for the praise of men, Paul's desire was to complete the work God had given him.
