The Third Commandment was meant to prohibit using God’s name in an oath. How did the people in ancient times understand this, and how did it become corrupted by the time of Jesus?

The Third Commandment forbids the use of God’s name as a swear word. But it’s more than just that. God’s name reveals His character, and to curse someone using God’s name is contrary to who He is.
