As believers in Christ, our citizenship is in heaven. We should be excited about that fact and eagerly await the coming of the Lord Jesus Christ. Further, we should encourage others to become citizens.

Paul urged the Philippians to follow the example of those whose "citizenship is in heaven." He warned them that certain false believers might lead them astray - and these he called "enemies of the cross."

To run well, you need to focus on the goal of finishing the race. Likewise, living the Christian life is a constant striving toward the goal of being like Christ.

Paul's greatest desire was to know Christ. He expressed that desire when he said, "Who are You, Lord?" on the Damascus road, and it was still his desire 30 years later as he neared the end of his life.

In Philippians 3, Paul boasts being a pious Jew, and of his devotion to the Law of Moses. Yet, he relied upon the righteousness of Christ to gain God's favor, rather than upon anything in himself.

Legalism in the church sends the wrong message - that you must do certain works in order to merit salvation. Legalists have it backward. Good works are the result of salvation, not the basis for it.

Joy is a byproduct of a relationship with the Lord. The circumstances and troubles of life will threaten that joy, so we must guard our joy by focusing on the only true source - the Lord Himself.

The essence of Epaphroditus is that he was a servant. As Christians, we should all learn from his example. And we should strive to show our appreciation to those who serve in the church.

Paul commended Epaphroditus as a spiritual brother, a hard worker for the gospel, and a caregiver. He was such a servant that he was concerned more for the church than for his own health.
