Trusting our feelings rather than trusting the Lord is a common human problem. But feelings are misleading, and when Abraham and Sarah try to help God fulfill His promises, it turns out to be costly.

God made a covenant that Abraham’s descendants would own the land of Israel. Their ownership was unconditional. But God’s promise that they would occupy the land was conditional on their obedience.
