In Exodus, the priestly garments denoted splendor and distinction; they set the priests apart from others. Today, all believers in Jesus Christ are considered priests, and we are clothed in His righteousness.

Exodus 28 through 29 tells about the calling, ordination, and consecration of the Old Testament priests. Priests took their position very seriously. They could not rush into God's presence unprepared.

In the courtyard of the tabernacle was the place where sacrifices were made. This symbolized that we are on the outside, and we cannot get close to God without an atoning sacrifice.

The veil of the tabernacle separated the Most Holy Place from the rest of the temple. And when the veil was torn at Christ’s death, it signified that we were no longer separated from God.

There was no image of God in the tabernacle. God commanded the Israelites not to make an image of Him. Any image of God cannot fully represent Him; it can only diminish His glory.

The Ark of the Covenant was the most important piece of furniture in the tabernacle. It was a symbol of God's presence, and it shows that He is merciful; God acts for His people in spite of what they have done.

As we look carefully at the tabernacle, and at each article included in it, we find a beautiful picture of Christ. The detail contained in God's instruction about worship also points us to Christ.

Under the Law, Moses was the mediator between God and the people. For us as Christians, Jesus is our mediator. He represents us before the Father, and He is the perfect representation of God for us.
