The commandment to honor your parents is listed first after the commands to honor God. Why? Because the parent/child relationship the most important one in a person's development.

Why is a Sabbath rest so important? God commands rest because it's good for you. Physically, it helps you recharge for greater productivity. And spiritually, it shows you realize everything comes from God.

Just as God commands a day off, He expects us to be working the rest of the week. We need to balance our responsibility to work with our remembrance of rest. Rest is good, but so is work.

God gave the command to rest one day a week because He knew we needed it. Still, some people pride themselves on never taking a day off. But, as the Scripture shows, God takes this command seriously.

A lot of people are bothered by the fact that God describes Himself as "jealous." Yet, He also describes Himself as merciful and just. These attributes give us a better image of Him than any statue or picture.
