Abraham: Champion of Living By Faith Part 2

July 24, 2007
Abraham waited many years before he was able to hold the son that God had promised him. In addition, certain promises were not fulfilled during his lifetime, yet he continued to believe that God would keep His word. Holding on to faith is difficult at times when we cannot see how God is working, but we can't give up because God is faithful and we can trust Him.

Can you imagine God calling you at the age of 50 to move to the Sahara Desert? Abraham was 75 when God told him to leave the city of Ur and move to the land of Canaan. Abraham didn’t know all the details of what lay ahead, but he obeyed God and went.

Can you imagine building a huge ark that could be seen for miles and yet was miles away from the nearest ocean? When Noah built the ark, he stood out, but his obedience to God saved him and his family. Our obedience to God may cause us to stand out or even seem ridiculous to a non-believing world, but in the end, it will definitely be worth it.

By faith, Enoch did not experience death because God had taken him. Enoch’s life seems like a mystery, for there are little known details about his life, but we do know that he pleased God. Based on what we know about Enoch, what can we learn so that it may be said of us that our lives please God?

Cain tried to worship God on his own terms, in essence, creating his own religion. Similarly today, men still try to create their own religion and individual path to God. However, doing so completely overlooks one important fact: God created man, not the other way around; therefore, God has the knowledge and right to determine the exact path to Himself.

Both Cain and Abel offered a sacrifice to God, but the book of Hebrews tells us that, by faith, Abel offered a more pleasing sacrifice than Cain's. What exactly set Abel's sacrifice apart from Cain's?

Some people believe faith in God leads to a boring life. Oh, but in reality, living by faith leads to a life full of adventure and contentment. The best part about a life of faith is that it is absolutely pleasing to God.

Everyone has some amount of faith; if we did not, we would not be able to do everyday tasks, such as drive on the road, sit in a chair, or even order coffee. Unfortunately, some people have more faith in a cup of java then they do in the God Who created the universe.
