America, Israel & Iran - & the Quran Part 1
Guest: William Federer, Historian and Author of numerous books including "What Every American Needs to Know About the Quran." War, negotiations that fail, threats to Israel and America, potential nuclear arms in Iran - what is really going on with all this. For perspective we bring you the known facts and real story behind the headlines. Plus, AI created a song for Changing Worldviews...listen to what it created!
Guest (Male): Exposing the changing worldviews behind the issues that are fundamentally changing our nation and world, the Sharon Hughes Show starts now.
Sharon Hughes: Well hello everyone, thank you so much for tuning into this edition of Changing Worldviews. With everything that is going on, it’s like a yo-yo, or a pendulum back and forth, back and forth as regards to the US and Israel and Iran. It just does not appear that Iran will ever be serious about quote "coming to the table" and negotiating. I, for one, appreciate President Trump wanting to negotiate without war. I also appreciate the fact that America is standing strong with Israel.
So just to be clear and to bring some perspective, I want to bring to you my interview with modern-day historian William Federer, author of numerous books including *What Every American Needs to Know About the Quran*. This will help us understand the worldview, not just of Islam, but specifically of Iran. We know there are factions within Islam, and we know there are Muslims who do not adhere to the goals and the mindset of the radical leadership in Iran.
But this information we’re going to be sharing with you over the next few weeks will hopefully help all of us to be able to understand what indeed is going on. So stay with me because I think my interviews with Bill Federer on this subject are some of the most important ones that I’ve ever done. I will also bring to you interviews that I’ve had with Eric Stakelbeck and also with Professor William Wagner on this very issue.
I encourage you, if you haven’t signed up for notifications of when our new podcasts are posted, to do that. The easiest way is our page on OnePlace.com. Just go to our website, changingworldviews.com, and click on the mic at the top of the page. It’ll take you there and you can sign up to receive notifications. Okay, having said all of that, let’s begin.
Marco Rubio: Everyone has designs openly on the West, on the United States, on Europe. We've seen that progress there as well, and they are prepared to conduct acts of terrorism, in the case of Iran, nation-state actions, assassinations, murders, you name it, whatever it takes for them to gain their influence and ultimately their dominance of different cultures and societies. That's a clear and imminent threat to the world and to the broader West, but especially to the United States, who they identify as the chief source of evil on the planet.
William Federer: They have Sura 4:72 that says if you believe that Jesus is the Son of God, you have committed the unforgivable sin called shirk that condemns you to the fires of hell. You cannot be any more antichrist than by saying if you believe in Christ, you go to hell.
Sharon Hughes: Well, of course, that was a clip by our Secretary of State Marco Rubio and also William Federer. I have to just say that a few months back when the US and Israel attacked Iran, I wasn't surprised because we know prior to that that President Trump had several efforts trying to negotiate with that Persian country following the brutal killing of over 40,000 of Iran's own citizens.
What was surprising to me, however, is how quickly my thoughts and emotions sprang up from memories of the war in Iraq and Afghanistan following the terrorist attacks on America on 9/11. Not only was it a devastating event, but the years and the lost lives of our troops that followed was also devastating to say the least. My emotional response to the news of US and Israel attacking Iran came from experiential knowledge that never wants to see another engagement in a war in the Middle East or anywhere else.
Even though I understand the reasons for it, I’m guessing you probably felt and feel the same way. We know the American people do not want another war, do not want another long war. Well, I remember the threat communism posed before it fell and have done enough research and viewed enough documentaries over the years to see what it's like when dictators such as Hitler with their desire for world dominance attack.
We have been witnessing the same thing today with radical Islamists who want Islam to dominate the world. So it’s no surprise that Iran has been working to arm itself with nuclear weapons to wipe Israel off the map while at the same time chanting "Death to America." Now, I’m not making this up. This is not just a few. This is the radical regime in Iran now. As we know, the great majority of the Iranian people are not on that same side.
As a matter of fact, that's why they killed 40,000 because they didn't agree with this evil regime. I’m pretty sure that the American and Israeli governments gained intelligence, as has been said, indicating that Iran was very close, within weeks—maybe just days, one report said—of being successful in having nuclear power and thus the move by both Israel and America to have joint attacks on that nation.
Author of *Islam’s Plan to Change the World*, Professor William Wagner, who I’ve had the privilege to have on our show several times, says that the conflict between Islam and the West is not just a clash of cultures. It is a head-to-head confrontation between a religion intent on world dominance and a culture that doesn't understand this. Later on this month, my interview with Professor William Wagner, but for now, maybe we can understand and put politics aside because there’s been enough fruit to judge the tree for what it is. We can be of one mind and one heart of understanding the evil that wants to dominate the world.
Please don't misunderstand me. War is hell. My husband was in Vietnam. He was wounded there. He received a Purple Heart. As a matter of fact, the Veterans Administration now is evaluating the fact that his current situation that resulted in the heart attack and heart failure could be because of Agent Orange that was used in Vietnam. Not only that, my father was both in the Korean War and in World War II.
So it’s personal. Like I said, don't misunderstand me. War is hell and no one wants it, but in our fallen world, sometimes it's the inevitable to prevent evil from overtaking a country or a people or even the world. So here is part one of my interview with William Federer that is probably one of the most important interviews that we have done in our 20-plus years of being on the air. Here it is.
Before we get into what’s really going on in terms of Islam and why America needs to really know this history, can you help us understand what the Hadith is? I know that Islam takes a lot of their beliefs from that.
William Federer: The Quran is the words that Muhammad got. In other words, he would get these words from the spirit who he originally thought was a jinn or a genie. He later called it Gabriel. But these words would come to him, and since he couldn't write, he would just recite them over and over again until he had them memorized. So the followers that would come around him, he would have them say these things over and over again until they had them memorized. So that's where the Quran came from.
The Hadith is things that his 15 wives and half-dozen concubines and his friends that fought with him in the ghazi battles—if you were a person that fought in the battles with Muhammad, his 22 battles and 86 raids, then you were considered a ghazi warrior. Then after that first generation died, the ghazi warrior just meant somebody that was fighting for Islam. So the Hadith is what those people remembered that he said.
There’s about 22 different Hadiths. One of the resources that I’ve used in my book—and again, the title of the book is *What Every American Needs to Know About the Quran*—but the University of Southern California, usc.edu, has a Quran and Hadith searchable online, and you can type in there and read it all. Now it wasn't until Caliph Uthman took it and compiled all of these oral stories and put them together into the Hadiths.
The way he organized it was on the length of the verses. If we were to do that with the Bible, "Jesus wept" would be the first verse. So it wasn't organized in any organized way. And the Quran began at the time Muhammad lived. There were a lot of Desert Fathers. These were disciples of Jesus that were following Elijah and John the Baptist's example of going out into the wilderness and finding a cave and praying.
So Muhammad would do that. He’d go out into a cave. His wealthy wife supported him so he didn't have to work, and so he had a lot of this time where he would do this. He went out to a cave and talked about how one time a spirit came to him. This is the actual quote from the Hadith. It says, "At length, unexpectedly, the angel came to him and said, 'Read.' 'I cannot read,' he said.
The prophet described, 'Then he took me and squeezed me vehemently and then let me go and repeated the order: "Read." "I cannot read," I said.' And again, once again, he squeezed me and let me go until I was exhausted. And then he said, 'Read.' And I said, 'I cannot read.' He squeezed me for a third time and then let me go and said, 'Read in the name of the Lord that created man from a clot.'" And that was Sura 96:1–3.
So he went back to his wife. He was all disturbed. The reason being is this differed from every instance in the Bible where an angel appeared to somebody. The first words out of the angel’s mouth was what? "Fear not." And so this spirit inflicted tremendous fear. It says in the Hadith volume nine, number 111, it says, "Then Allah's apostle returned with inspiration, his neck muscles twitching with terror until he entered upon Khadija and said, 'Cover me, cover me.' Then covered him until his fear was over, and then he said, 'O Khadija, what is wrong with me?'"
Another verse says, "O Khadija, I see light and I hear sounds and I fear I am mad." Then she took him to her uncle, the one that married them, who was an Ebionite priest. The Ebionites, again, were the ones that thought Jesus was an instrument of salvation but he was not divine. He said, "Well, maybe it was the spirit that appeared to Moses." So based on that, Muhammad decided to listen to this spirit. A couple of times he was going to throw himself off a mountain, he was so depressed.
But this was in 610 AD, and it wasn't until 622 AD that he went public with his faith. He died in 632 AD, so he only had a public time for 10 years. Within that 10 years, he went on to have 15 wives and fought in these different battles. He got one-fifth of the booty. So when they would conquer an area, they would get the slaves and the women; he’d get one-fifth of them. He says there’s many verses in the Quran, but one says you can have four wives. I like the one verse that says, "Wives can be taken for beauty, for wealth, or for religion. Take at least one for religion."
Sharon Hughes: Wow. David Horowitz, who’s a well-known author and founder of FrontPage Mag, launched the Terrorism Awareness Project, which created a full-page ad for college newspapers, "What America Needs to Know About Jihad." Anyway, many of the major universities censored that ad about the global network of Muslim fanatics who have declared holy war on the United States, on the West, whose goal is dominance of the entire world.
David Horowitz has done this because all Americans need to wake up, but students are the most at risk because many live in an environment on the college campuses that are controlled by leftists. So what are your thoughts about why, in America, the left is so against Americans coming to have an understanding of the truth of what we’re really dealing with here?
William Federer: The first thing to understand is that the word Islam means submission and a Muslim is somebody who has submitted. They think there will be world peace when the whole world has submitted to the will of Allah. When we say world peace, we think of peaceful coexistence of different beliefs. When a Muslim says world peace, they think of world Islam.
So a moderate or lax Muslim thinks that Islam will conquer the world in the distant future, where a violent Muslim thinks that Islam will conquer the world now. A violent Muslim will just as soon kill a lax or a moderate Muslim because they think they have backslidden. The lax ones won't speak out because they’re afraid of getting killed. In a sense, there could be three groups of Muslims: the violent ones, and then the ones who are afraid of the violent ones, and then the dead ones who weren't afraid of the violent ones.
Things we see in Europe are played out before us. Western civilization has had to go from drive into neutral before it can go into reverse. In other words, it used to be all of Europe was Christian. It was Catholic, it was where the Reformation was. Being such, it gave birth to this idea that you have rights the government can't take away because the rights come from God. The idea that you’re equal to everybody because you’re equal in the sight of God.
Even Ben Franklin said we will be held accountable in the next life for our treatment of our fellow man in this life. So it being Judeo-Christian, then the French Revolution came along, which pushed forth atheism and deism and secularism and pluralism and diversity. Pluralism and diversity says, oh, well all belief systems are the same, so sure, bring in whatever you want.
Islamic jihad Sharia law is being invited in. Now, once it gets invited in, it says we have to be ruthless to the infidel in obedience to Allah.
Sharon Hughes: We have to take a break here. Stay with us. We'll be right back.
Cliff Kincaid: This is Cliff Kincaid of Accuracy in Media saying, "Please listen to Sharon’s show, *Changing Worldviews*. It’s one of the best shows out there in terms of getting alternative news and information into the hands of people quickly enough to make a difference."
Sharon Hughes: We always like to have a special offer every month that not only will get valuable information into the hands of our listeners but also to help us cover on-air costs. This month is a book by the late Hilmar von Campe, *Defeating the Totalitarian Lie*.
Hilmar von Campe: We had the government now in Germany. They call the Social Democrats. They refuse to have God mentioned in their oath. Normally when you think of the Nazis and the war, you look to the criminals, but the really responsible people for what’s happening are the appeasers, the bystanders who don't want to risk anything.
Sharon Hughes: Hilmar’s book on the totalitarian state is the "now" book, if I can put it that way. So if you would like to get a copy, just go to our website changingworldviews.com. Thanks for staying with us. Okay, so here’s something. The UN Global Gun Control Treaty and what we need to know about that is a couple of things. Number one, every ruthless dictator has always believed in and executed gun control and confiscated the weapons before they took over. People have asked, well, why didn't the Jews defend themselves prior to the Holocaust? Well, they took their guns away first. They didn't have any self-defense. Hello.
Number two, what we need to know is how it works is the treaty has to be ratified by Congress, but there's about a five-year window between when the treaty is signed and Congress ratifies it that it actually goes into being. So once a president signs it, the United States comes under the treaty and then has to be ratified or not ratified. This really isn't our subject for today, but it ties into the subject because not only has the United Nations turned to Iran to negotiate global arms deals—Iran that wants to wipe Israel off the map? Yes, you heard me right. We live in a fallen world.
So William Federer on what every American needs to know about the Quran, the foundation of the Muslim religion. We need to know what in fact the foundations of that religion are so that we can accurately judge. That's what we’re doing with William Federer. I also will tell you up front, after I interviewed him for our show, he had me on a show that he was filling in for and we enjoyed another hour of discussion about what the Quran is all about. We were just entering into a discussion when he was beginning to talk to us about something that his wife had experienced in regards to our topic. So let’s listen to what Bill was saying.
William Federer: She sells insurance, and she’s gone into several of—the Bill Clinton moved 30,000 Bosnian families who were cultural Muslims to St. Louis. She’s visiting with them. It’s funny, she says that the men will buy insurance on their wife, but they won't buy insurance on themselves. They don't care what happens if they die, if their wife gets any money; they just want money if she dies. Anyway, she says, "Well now you’re Muslim and everything, if there’s a jihad, will you kill me?" And they said, "Oh, they’re not going to declare a jihad." But she says, "Well, will you?" And they said, "Well, if they declared a jihad, yeah, we’d have to kill you, but we don't want to."
It was this idea that they do it out of obedience, not because they want to, but because they figure—and I have that in the book, a verse in the Quran, it’s 2:216, and it’s one of the scariest verses because it actually deadens the conscience. It says, "Fighting is ordained for you, as much as you dislike it." Another translation says, "Fighting is prescribed for you and you dislike it. But it is possible that you dislike a thing which is good for you and that you love a thing which is bad for you, but Allah knoweth and you knoweth not."
Here’s the Pickthall translation. It says, "Warfare is ordained for you, though it is hateful unto you. But it may happen that that which is good for you is what you dislike and you dislike a thing that is good." Anyway, so it’s this idea that you’re about to kill somebody and this voice on the inside says this is not right. Then this verse comes to mind. You will be about to kill somebody and you’ll think this is not right, but oh, you have to obey Allah, and you will think it’s bad for you when it’s really good for you. And so there’s a verse tucked into the Quran to help deaden the conscience, the natural conscience that says you shouldn't kill somebody.
One of the things to just throw in was the stirrup. You think the stirrup? Yeah, for a horse. And that was instrumental in the spread of Islam. The stirrup was a military invention. First it was with the nomadic Mongols that would ride barefoot in the first century BC and they would tie a rope around the horse and put a loop at the end for their big toe. Then that made it down to China in the fifth century AD and they widened it and put a little metal bar so you could stick your whole foot in there.
Then that made its way to Persia where they actually made it into a stirrup. Then the Muslims got it from the Persians. When Muhammad would go on his raids, it was this new technology that you could ride on a horse at full gallop and have a sword. And they invented the curved scimitar sword with a curve to it that way that you could slice somebody in half while you’re riding a horse. Prior to the invention of the stirrup, you would ride your horse to some place and you’d have to get off it and then fight hand-to-hand.
So this allowed for these blitzkrieg lightning raids. And the area of the Holy Land, the Middle East, it was Byzantine Christian. It had been at war with Persia, Iran. The Zoroastrians of Iran—as a matter of fact, the Persians came in and destroyed every church in the Holy Land except the one in Bethlehem because it had a mural of the Three Wise Men on the wall, the Magi who were from the Zoroastrians. Anyway, both kingdoms were weakened and because there was a power vacuum, Islam was able to sweep in. They would come to these small villages and they would slice people up and the only way to not get sliced was to surrender and submit and become Muslim.
Sharon Hughes: My goodness. If you do not submit, is there any other religion that is like that?
William Federer: No. Muhammad even said that—this was in the Hadith—it says, "No Muslim should be killed for killing a kafir." Now a kafir is an infidel, which is what we would be. And then he goes on to say, "Whoever changes his religion, kill him." You picture Jesus when he said something and the apostle said, "Gee, this is a tough saying," and a lot of them walked with Jesus no longer and Jesus said, "You guys want to leave too?" Jesus never forced anybody to follow him. Where here Muhammad said, "Whoever changes his religion from Islam, kill him."
But what happened is it spread through this warfare, conquered all of Spain, held it for 700 years, made its way up to Constantinople in 717 AD and the Greeks there had a technological advantage called Greek fire. Now this was where they mixed oil with sawdust and put it in brass containers and pumped it up under pressure and sprayed it from their ships onto the Muslim ships, and it would burn them. And the Muslims didn't know how to respond. Five different times they tried to conquer Constantinople; they were pushed back.
After they were pushed back, some of their theologians began to write their religion differently saying, "Well, maybe we’ll conquer the world in the last days or in the distant future." And so it gave birth to this thing called moderate Islam. Then what happened is the Muslims began to spread eastward and began to conquer these Mongolian tribes. These Mongolians would have a style of warfare where they would ride into a village and kill the men and plunder the houses and take the women captive and have as many wives as they want, and they would begin to fight these invading Muslims.
But it never occurred to these Mongols to force the people they conquered to convert. The Turkish Mongols began to hear about this religion where you could kill the unbeliever, where you could keep four wives and the ones that your right hand possesses, and that you can keep the plunder. That was one of the motivations. Now you can just do it with the blessing of Allah. The Turks converted en masse to Islam.
They began to spread back westward and they not only conquered the Muslim world and took over—now they’re the Turkish Muslims—but they began to attack into Asia Minor. Asia Minor is where the seven churches mentioned in the book of Revelation were, and they were all conquered by the Muslims. This is where the Apostle John preached and the Apostle Paul spoke and where Smyrna—there was a church in Smyrna all the way from John’s time up until 1922 when they had a jihad in Armenia and they killed a million and a half Armenian Christians.

Guest (Male): In 1776, the difference of one vote gave America the English language instead of German. In 1876, the difference of one vote made Rutherford Hayes President of the United States. In 1923, the difference of one vote gave Adolf Hitler leadership of the Nazi Party. Get the idea? One vote, yours, makes a huge difference. Vote. Sharon Hughes: We'll continue with this interview, but I wanted to close out with this. Abraham Lincoln, one of the greatest presidents our nation has ever had, said, "Let the people know the facts and the country will be safe." Ladies and gentlemen, that's why we do what we do, because we believe that if the people know what is going on, if the people know the truth, the nation will be safe because we still are, no matter what is going on, we still are a nation of, by, and for the people. We still hold the power to hold our representatives' feet to the fire, but of course we have to get engaged.
All right, so we will definitely bring you parts two, three, and four of my interview with William Federer as well as with others that we have talked about on this subject who not only are in the know but are experts as regards to the Middle East. In the meantime, on another subject, AI, as you well know, is advancing rapidly. I think about the verse in the Bible that says knowledge will increase in the earth. Well, I don't know if that was referring to this or not, but it certainly is increasing. And there are good things about AI and there are some flat-out scary things.
I was listening to some experts that were actually involved in creating the AI that is now evolving into Open AI, and I guess one of the shocks to them was that AI made the decision to do a cyberattack on its own. It wasn't programmed to do that. So what in the world? Anyway, we'll talk about that on the show as well, but I thought it might be fun to see what AI would create if I asked it to write a song about what our show *Changing Worldviews* is about, and here’s what it came up with.
Guest (Male): (Singing AI Voice)
Coffee steaming, morning light
Headlines scroll, a brand new fight
Cultural threads woven tight
Stories waiting to take flight
We dig beyond the black and white
Find the colors hidden in the night
Voices quiet, voices loud
We're here to break the crowd
Headlines and heartbeats side by side
Political tides and cultural pride
Every story has a face
We'll chase the truth through time and space
This is where the conversation starts
Tune in, we’re just getting smart.
Sharon Hughes: Well, there you have it. We're just getting smart. I don't know, I just put in a few sentences as regards to what *Changing Worldviews* is about, and that's what they came up with. Pretty funny. We will also bring on some experts to talk about some of the things that aren't so funny about AI. In the meantime, I encourage you to tune in next time when we’ll do more on this topic of what every American needs to know about the Quran. And until then, this is Sharon Hughes, saying it like it is.
