Focal Point Ministries: Sandra asks about a resurrected body. Yes, they will have a resurrected body. There is a resurrection of the righteous and the unrighteous. Daniel 12 is one of our first clear references to the resurrection and talks about those that are raised to life from the dust. This body is raised to shame. Paul talked about it when he was being questioned for believing in the resurrection by the Sadducees. He was very clear to say there will be a resurrection of both the just and the unrighteous.
So there is clearly a resurrection of non-Christians and Christians. The way Paul puts our resurrection is the mortal has to put on immortality. My life is dying, but one day I am going to get a body that doesn't die. It is going to be impervious. The non-Christian is going to be raised into a body like my body, only it is going to be subject to pain. Mine would still be subject to pain, but there will be no pain.
The Bible says regarding what the angels can do—and I think they will do even in the millennial kingdom—they will keep us from stubbing our toe on a rock. The angels will bear us up and we won’t even strike our foot on a stone. If that is the case, then I’m sure I’ll have a sentient body. I can feel a hug, I can feel a good meal in my belly, and I can feel a nice warm breeze on my face, but I’m not going to feel a stubbed toe or an ingrown toenail. I’m not going to have any of that.
The non-Christian is going to be in a resurrected body just like mine. The problem is they won’t need sleep and they’ll have energy that is going to continue forever. It will not die. There is not going to be entropy or death of the body at all. It is going to continue on. It is just that it will be subject to all the things that they deserve based on what they’ve done, and therefore there is going to be gradated judgment.
Sandra, that is exactly right. It is the same kind of body. I can look at 1 Corinthians 15 and list the things I find there about the resurrected body and say that is the same kind of body they will get. The only difference is mine will be protected from physical pain and sustained in a place of comfort and blessing. They are going to be exposed to physical pain and they will not have the comfort of the kinds of things that we long for in the eternal state.
