A Word for the Fallen

May 14, 2024

Peter was a big disciple. He was the first disciple to trust Christ with his life. He left his career and followed God. But even Peter denied Christ... not once but three times! But thankfully Jesus Christ did not abandon Peter. He picked him up after he had fallen, set him back on his feet, and encouraged him to continue to grow in his faith. And the good news is that this same encouragement is available to us when we stumble.

Those who are in Christ have been justified before God. But salvation means much more; it means that we are sanctified, that God actually leads us into holiness. As Michael Allen and company explain, our holiness is carried out in the present work of our sovereign, loving God. In Christ we are given life, not simply in name, but in fact. Praise the Lord, who delivers His children through every weakness. Though you struggle with sin, do not be discouraged; it is God who works in you, "both to will and to work for his good pleasure" (Phil. 2:13).

A bicycle wheel will not function properly if its spokes do not meet in the center of the wheel. We must always remember to keep the Lord at the center of our lives. Our spiritual walk will become wobbly and imbalanced if we begin to follow our way and relegate God to the periphery of our lives. How can you learn to center your life in Jesus Christ and enjoy the richness of intimate fellowship with Him?

There is diversity in unity. While that statement sounds oxymoronic, it is very true of Christ’s body, the church. God has given every Christian a gift that, when used rightly, contributes to the oneness of the body and to His glory. Join Dr. James Boice on The Bible Study Hour as he describes the “grace gifts” God gives to His people and their ultimate purpose.

At this point in Isaiah, the prophet addresses the leaders of God’s people, chastising them for their failure to lead with wisdom and zeal. We discover what it means to be a watchman or shepherd, faithful to the whole of God’s truths. Reverend Eric Alexander challenges us to be people of vision, with a heart for God in our time, in Hear the Word of God.

The Bible teaches that the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ are the most significant events in human history. The reason Jesus rose from the dead was to conquer sin and death once and for all. That sounds like critical information for all of us to hear. But the question you might be asking is this: “Is what the Bible says about Jesus really true? Did Jesus of Nazareth actually come back to life?”

When severe drought strikes a part of our country, the President has to declare a state of emergency and send aid to help the people survive. When the Israelites wandered the barren desert wilderness for 40 years they had to learn to rely on God's power and provision for their survival. The Lord went to great lengths to teach his people that he is sufficient to meet all of their needs and believers today must learn this lesson as well.

There’s no mention of the church in the Old Testament and in fact, the word, church is used rather infrequently in the New (Testament).  But the word “body” on the other hand is used often because it reflects what the church really is.  Join Dr. James Boice next time, on The Bible Study Hour as he explores the true identity of the church.

Isaiah 53 gives us the most amazing picture of God stretching forth His mighty arm to save His people. He bids them to behold His Son, who will fulfill the role of Jehovah’s Servant, to accomplish this redeeming work. Reverend Alexander helps us to understand the mystery of God’s redeeming grace in Hear the Word of God.

“I need just a little peace and quiet.” That’s something we’ve all said on occasion. It may seem innocent enough, but the truth is, deep down inside, we all long for peace... in our relationships, at our workplace, in our families. Often these areas of our lives have very little peace, even though we may work hard at it. The problem is, real, genuine peace in our lives only comes after we make peace with God.
