February 27, 2024

Those who are in Christ have been justified before God. But salvation means much more; it means that we are sanctified, that God actually leads us into holiness. As Michael Allen and company explain, our holiness is carried out in the present work of our sovereign, loving God. In Christ we are given life, not simply in name, but in fact. Praise the Lord, who delivers His children through every weakness. Though you struggle with sin, do not be discouraged; it is God who works in you, "both to will and to work for his good pleasure" (Phil. 2:13).

We tend to spend a good deal of time trying to motivate ourselves and others. What is it that motivates people? Napoleon used the promise of medals, Churchill used the vision of victory in a seemingly hopeless situation, but what inspires Christians to offer their bodies a living sacrifice to God? Join Dr. James Boice next time on The Bible Study Hour as he explores that question of motivation.

God reveals his plan for restoring his people by raising up the pagan king of Persia to deliver them from exile. The Sovereign Lord who controls the direction of history will ultimately bring salvation, but woe to him who quarrels with his Maker. Reverend Eric Alexander stirs our hearts to trust Him with an absolute confidence on Hear the Word of God.

The Bible calls us saints, which means holy ones, because God has separated us from sin and blessed us for His service. Most Christians would agree that we have a need for personal holiness, however, we have difficulty in agreeing as to how this holiness actually comes about. Philip Ryken sorts it all out, today on Every Last Word.

Until the cross, sacrifices for sin were dead sacrifices. Jesus’ death on the cross might have been considered a dead sacrifice were it not for the fact that He arose, and because of His sacrifice for us, we are called to become a living sacrifice for Him. Join Dr. James Boice next time on The Bible Study Hour as he describes the qualities necessary to become a living sacrifice for God.

In this chapter, Israel turns to the worship of powerless idols, yet the people are not forgotten. God promises redemption after judgment, the pouring out of His spirit to renew and revive His children. Reverend Eric Alexander offers the believer this same encouragement, as water on a thirsty land, on Hear the Word of God.

Believing the message of salvation is not an end in itself, it is only the beginning. We are not merely saved from sin, but we are also saved for God’s glory. God’s glory is commonly revealed in genuine Christian community. More today on Every Last Word.
