Why Are Politicians Fighting Election Safeguards? (Special Guest Chris Salcedo)
Why are elected officials resisting basic efforts to make sure only lawful votes determine America’s future? In this episode of Allen Jackson Now, Pastor Allen Jackson welcomes veteran broadcaster and author Chris Salcedo to examine the growing fight over election integrity, citizenship, and political power. They also explore the rise of socialist candidates among younger voters and the Democratic Party’s growing embrace of ideas that expand government control, while weakening confidence in America’s constitutional system. Pastor Allen reminds believers that the Church cannot retreat from difficult cultural questions. We are called to speak truth, defend what is right, and refuse to shrink back when biblical values are challenged.
Allen Jackson: Good evening and welcome to Nashville. I’m Allen Jackson. For generations, Americans have accepted that every eligible citizen has the right to vote and that every lawful vote should be counted. In a constitutional republic, one unlawful vote doesn't just violate election law, it effectively cancels the legitimate vote of a freedom-loving American who followed the rules. That’s why election integrity isn’t simply a political issue.
In New Jersey, state officials acknowledged that thousands of individuals in the country illegally were registered to vote in what they described as a software failure. The technology company involved, they dispute that assertion, and the Justice Department has launched an investigation. At the same time, North Carolina recently identified approximately 34,000 deceased individuals that still appear on its voter rolls.
Some dismiss these incidents as isolated administrative problems, but elections are often decided by razor-thin margins. In New Jersey alone, more than a dozen elections over the past decade have been decided by 10 votes or fewer. Across the country, local races have been determined by a single vote or a handful of ballots. When elections are that close, every lawful vote matters and every unlawful vote, it carries consequences.
President Trump has made election integrity one of his administration’s top priorities. He’s urging Congress to pass the Save America Act. It requires proof of citizenship for voter registration. Yet that legislation has been stuck in the Senate. Meanwhile, several Democrat-led states have resisted Justice Department requests for voter registration data; they have challenged federal oversight. Why are these elected officials resisting efforts to ensure election integrity?
It feels like we have a group of people, elected officials, allowing masses of people to illegally reside in this beautiful nation of ours with the benefits of citizenship, yet the people aren't citizens. We have leaders that are trying to incentivize individuals who are here illegally with the same kind of incentives that they themselves have. If our elected leaders truly believed that the opportunity of liberty and freedom would bring potential to a person's life, then the incentive should be to become a citizen and to take the necessary legal steps.
Instead, we see elected officials denigrate citizenship and give away perks and privileges that are reserved for citizens. Giving the privilege to be a citizen and having an opportunity to become something is different than saying we’re going to hand out perks and bribes. Recently, a federal judge struck down Illinois Governor JB Pritzker’s state law that provided in-state tuition, financial aid, and scholarships for those who are here illegally.
The state of Illinois used taxpayer dollars to extend benefits to illegal immigrants that even law-abiding American citizens, they couldn't access. It’s not just happening in Illinois. The Justice Department has filed lawsuits connected to in-state tuition benefits for illegal immigrants against Minnesota, Virginia, California, New Jersey, Kansas, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Maryland, and Colorado. For the record, granting illegal individuals in-state tuition is a violation of federal law. It's illegal. It's also subsidizing education at taxpayers' expense.
We just assumed that those in leadership, regardless of political affiliation, would be good stewards of the people’s trust and have our best interests at heart. Instead, we have a privileged elite that use positions of authority and power for self-enrichment. They say leadership is a reason to loot the system. That’s why the leaders aren’t even appalled by the looting and fraud. I’d like to remind you that anything that begins with illegal, it doesn't lead to a good outcome.
We cannot live in complete defiance of the law and imagine that that will bring good things to us. We’ve had sanctuary cities and sanctuary states for a long time now. They’re not safe places. Some of our most populous cities are refusing to obey federal laws while they demand federal funding. It’s just absurd. They shouldn’t get a single federal penny. I don't want to pay taxes and give it to officials who are looting hardworking Americans.
There are people that suffer when other people steal. Fraud is not a matter of opinion. You're taking something you don't deserve and you know it. We have elected officials, city mayors, escalating lawlessness in their own communities. They pushed to defund the police, to completely eradicate ICE. As the church, we’re struggling to understand how we should respond. Should we talk about it? Is it appropriate to have the conversation?
If you dare to mention any of the very observable facts that I just recited to you that are part of the public square, you’re frequently shouted down as being racist or xenophobic. We’re going to be called unkind, but we can’t capitulate. We cannot shrink back. Don't be silent around ungodliness. Don’t lose your voice around things that you know are wrong. I believe with all of my heart that Christianity is the hope of humanity. So in your sphere of influence, be the voice of truth in this remarkable season of change. In a moment, we’ll be joined by veteran television and radio broadcaster and author Chris Salcedo. I’ll be right back.
We are joined today by the host of The Chris Salcedo Show. Welcome to the show, Chris.
Chris Salcedo: Mr. Jackson, great to be back.
Allen Jackson: We are witnessing a rise of socialist candidates with a remarkable popularity amongst particularly young people. I recently read that if we compare the DSA platform that they released with Mao’s 1949 common program, they are almost essentially the same. We don’t want history to repeat itself. How do we help this younger generation understand what's happening?
Chris Salcedo: Well, I mean that’s a multi-tiered solution. First off, we Americans have got to get government out of education. The worst mistake we ever made was allowing the government to educate our children. It is what allowed probably three, maybe four generations now, Mr. Jackson, to look at socialism and communism as "Hey, it’s not so bad," because they're not being taught about the dangers of this left-wing ideology.
And by the way, they’re not teaching history because they’re terribly afraid your children will learn from it, these leftists who now occupy the majority of decision-making across the fruited plain in government education. So that’s number one: getting control of government education.
Number two, if you read Peter Schweizer’s book, you will understand that the massive illegal immigration agenda being undertaken by communist China, being undertaken by Mexico, being undertaken by enemy nations all over the globe, it is with intent. Immigration is being used as a weapon to unwind the United States from within. And you’ve got Democrats instituting a policy that accepts all of that and you’ve got Republicans who are voting to fully fund it all.
Allen Jackson: It's a clear move away from the constitutional values that have shaped this nation and the Democratic Party doesn’t seem to be doing much to object about it. Is that party going to continue this lurch towards a direction of destruction or are they going to find a way to right the ship?
Chris Salcedo: Well, I haven’t seen a Democrat candidate that is pro-American for quite some time. I mean I can’t think of one Democrat who says, "Hey, we’ve got to control our borders, we’ve got to control the crime in the streets, the Constitution is sacrosanct, it is chains on government." They don't believe that. They have been, this Democrat Party, all of the energy is with their Democrat-Socialist overseers. Conversely, a lot of the energy on the Republican side is with we conservatives, but while the Democrats embrace their socialist energy, the Republicans are rejecting their constitutional conservative base. I’ve never seen anything like it.
Allen Jackson: Chris, I want you to watch this video of Hakeem Jeffries. He’s got an opinion on who should vote and then I’ve got a question.
Guest (Female): Now, Democrats have repeatedly said that non-citizen voting doesn't happen. It happened. Is this a problem?
Hakeem Jeffries: I think that I continue to have confidence in state and local authorities in making sure that there’s going to be a free and fair election in November. Unfortunately, what we’ve seen from Donald Trump is that in this particular case, Republicans have adopted voter suppression as an electoral strategy.
Allen Jackson: It’s tiring. We talk about fair elections and they talk about voter suppression. Is there any common ground where they’re going to have a conversation?
Chris Salcedo: No. Mr. Jeffries there, Hakeem Jeffries, the House Minority Leader, he is fighting for illegal aliens’ and foreign nationals’ ability to tell you Americans what to do with your country. He is fighting for voting expression for criminal illegal aliens and foreign nationals who have no right to put their thumb in the scale and vote in American elections and cancel out American votes. The Democrats support foreign nationals overriding you Americans at the ballot box. Conservatives do not. The America First coalition headed by President Trump and his coalition, they do not support that.
Allen Jackson: We’re living in a world where the theater of the absurd presents a new release almost daily. They look at us and say why should we object to men competing in women’s sports, and now they’re looking at us and say why should we object to people who aren’t citizens participating in our elections? The premise is absurd, but the American people seem rather silent. Do you think we will ever wake up and actually express our voices so that those that are asking for votes are affected?
Chris Salcedo: You are reading my mind. The last couple of days on the radio show, Mr. Jackson, I’ve been asking the audience: when did we start accepting that which has never been acceptable? When did we start saying, "Well, illegal aliens have a right to be in America and they have a right to stay in America. Illegal alien criminals have the right to be in America and stay in America"? When did we start accepting that?
When did we start accepting that, oh, the President of the United States two weeks ago released document showing not only did foreign countries interfere in our elections in unprecedented ways, you had members of the so-called intelligence community in the United States, traitors by any other name, facilitating that cheating by making sure the President of the United States was unaware that it was going on, actually running interference for the cheating at the ballot box?
Boy, your guess is as good as mine as to whether or not our people will awaken and say, "You know what? This far and no further." I will give you one caveat: out in the People’s Republic of California, Steve Hilton came out with a brilliant ad basically portraying the Democrat machine out there in California as a bunch of Roman dictators. And the slogan "enough is enough" was chanted in that ad. And I’m praying my fellow countrymen wake up and start saying that enough is enough.
Allen Jackson: President Trump has made a priority of trying to get the Save America Act through the Senate. Even though it’s got about 80% of American support, the senators have seemed reluctant to find a way to get that through. Do you have hope or is there a pathway that could actually make that happen?
Chris Salcedo: There is a pathway and I have no hope because there are about 24 Republicans, if you believe Mark Meadows and his list that he released. There are 24 fake Republicans who are in it more to please Democrats than to deliver for their own voters. This is an 85/15 issue. The Save America Act is supported by an overwhelming number of Americans. If the Republicans delivered on this, which they have every ability to do if they would not abolish the filibuster, if they would just restore it to the founding fathers’ filibuster which is a talking filibuster, if they just did that, they could get it passed. They could move it forward.
But as stated, there are 24 fake Republican senators who are more devoted to socialist-Marxist Democrats than they are devoted to their own voters. So there is a pathway forward if we had leadership and if we had pro-Americans in the Republican Party in charge in the United States Senate and sadly, we do not.
Allen Jackson: Well, I believe in prayer, so I’m going to pray that the improbable happens. God’s got a track record of that. Chris, we need to take a short break. Can you standby for another segment?
Chris Salcedo: You bet.
Allen Jackson: We’re back now with author and broadcaster Chris Salcedo. Chris, the White House Policy Council recently released a 162-page report. They accused the National Museum of American History of extreme political activism. They were downplaying the accuracy of America’s history, focused on negatives, a frightening list of things. As a taxpayer, I don’t want to fund a museum that distorts American history. What can we do about this?
Chris Salcedo: We can get control of the federal budget. As probably everybody watching this program knows, the federal budget is out of control. It’s on autopilot. Your elected officials that you send up to Washington D.C. to be good stewards of your money, they put everything on autopilot. There are automatic raises for government. Nobody’s checking, nobody’s running the store. Your elected officials are concentrating on running for reelection rather than concentrating on doing their 9-to-5.
The Senate, how many vacations have they been on this year? I took my first vacation in July of this year. They had been on three or four during the year. And what do they have to show for it? Nothing. They have done nothing in the United States Senate under Republicans in the affirmative for the American people, although they would claim them passing a Democrat housing bill was working for the American people but I doubt it. The way we get this under control is stop automatic spending increases in Washington. It’s called zero-line budgeting. We stop baseline budgeting. However, that takes grownups in Washington and we don’t have a surplus of those these days.
Allen Jackson: Well, it seems to me that the bureaucrats, those lifelong servants of the state, are really more the political actors than the people that we elect and send to these various offices. How do we disrupt the power of the bureaucracy so the will of the people is carried out by those that we elect?
Same answer: the money. It’s all in the money. The reason why our government has grown beyond the consent of the governed is because these elected officials keep on adding debt upon debt upon debt. We’re 40 trillion dollars in debt as I said. And the reason why that keeps happening is they keep on padding their largesse, they keep on growing government to unsustainable levels.
The current Congress could work seven days a week, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, Mr. Jackson, and they would have no prayer of properly administering as the Constitution calls for this government. That means our government is too big and spends too much of our money. It is time to reduce the size and the scope of the federal establishment. There’s a reason why all of the Dodge cuts didn’t find expression, didn’t get codified into law, is because your lazy legislators refuse to make it happen. They like spending your money with no accountability.
Allen Jackson: I think we should take all the IRS auditors that search American citizens and point them at the federal government to search out all the fraud. If they do that, paying taxes will become a simpler process.
Chris Salcedo: Bravo! Bravo! It is time that we use the elements of government that they use to disadvantage American citizens and turn it on the government. I’m sick and tired of my government victimizing me, turning the government that I pay for against me. How about we live up to the founding fathers’ vision and we make government hold itself accountable, give us the mechanisms to hold it accountable.
Allen Jackson: Well, a sportswriter for USA Today, Nancy Armour, she wrote an article last week saying that the WNBA basketball star Caitlin Clark, by telling officials that she’s being fouled on the court, could lead to consequences like the lynching of Emmett Till in 1955. It seems egregious to me, but the sports media plays along. Have they completely lost the narrative on what their job is?
Chris Salcedo: They have completely lost objectivity. I mean, the idea that a young lady who’s talented and is making headway in women’s basketball is doing a great job, that all of a sudden it’s fashionable to go ahead and target her specifically because of her skin color. Wait a minute. There’s a name for that. They call it racism. And those who are covering for it and those who are enabling it are enabling racism in this country. And I don’t believe we ought to be judging anybody on the color of their skin.
Allen Jackson: I agree. Well, the midterms are just a little over three months away. There are several races on the line for both the House and the Senate, but one that’s captured national attention is in your home state of Texas, where Ken Paxton is facing off with James Talarico. How do you see that playing out in November?
Chris Salcedo: Well, if past is prologue, a Ken Paxton should win this contest easily. That is not for me to tell all of you folks in Texas who are in the sound of my voice not to show up. James Talarico, what everybody needs to know and understand is that this guy is a creation of the Republican House of Representatives in the state of Texas. He has been made a household name because of Republicans. Republicans stupidly and arrogately and against the will of the voters of Texas gave Democrats power inside of the Texas House. They didn’t earn it at the ballot box. This created James Talarico.
Then of course, talk about racism, the Democrats, they had Jasmine Crockett to choose from and James Talarico, and some of them been caught on camera saying, "Well, we would have voted for Jasmine, but we wanted the white guy because he can 'win.'" So who are the real racists? I think Ken Paxton, one of the most stalwart conservatives in this country, probably the most effective Attorney General in this country, who has a track record of protecting me and mine from communists and socialists, he should be a shoo-in. But only if Texans recognize that we need to send somebody else to Washington D.C., unlike John Cornyn, who is willing to fight for our people instead of foreign nationals, criminal illegal aliens, and Democrats.
Allen Jackson: Chris, I thank you for your time today and very much appreciate the insights you bring.
Chris Salcedo: Mr. Jackson, it is always a pleasure talking to you, sir. See you again.
Allen Jackson: Thank you for taking the time to send us your emails. Your thoughts and perspectives are always a highlight. AP from Tennessee said, "Reading about Sophie Cunningham and Riley Gaines’ common sense stance for protecting young girls in sports is much needed in the world today. As only a sports viewer, how can I effectively add to their voices?"
I believe every individual, you included, me included, has a sphere of influence. And if in that arena we will use our voices to advocate for what we know to be right and true and good, then it becomes a force in our world. And if you’ll add to that prayer and invite God into the midst, we can change circumstances. God is in the change business.
Claire G. from San Antonio, Texas: "I was born in Budapest, Hungary under communism. We escaped barely to Germany where we lived for six years. When I was seven years old, our family came as refugees to the USA. If communism ever rules in the US, there will be a most shocked generation of the horrible oppression and ungodly values that stand in place. It’s just the opposite of what the US stands for today. Those who think socialism and communism would be a good thing for any nation are delusional and deceived. Only a nation under God can thrive as we have in the US, which is the greatest nation in the world."
Claire, I agree. Liberty and freedom come from God. I think envy and greed and deception are pushing us towards communism and socialism. We’ve all got to use our voice and we need to take time and pray. God’s a delivering God and God is moving in the earth. Let’s go with Him. Good night and God bless.
