Safe Through the Night
There is a closeness with Jesus that quiets the soul through the night.
Rabbi K.A. Schneider: Shalom, my beloved dear brothers and sisters. This is Rabbi Schneider from Discovering the Jewish Jesus. One of the least preached—I’m going to say it’s probably the least preached book in the Bible from the pulpit—is the Song of Songs. And the reason it’s not taught from the pulpit is because it sounds sensual. It is sensual in nature, but the Lord is communicating something not in terms of sexuality, but in terms of intimacy.
Consider, for example, the Song of Songs chapter one, verse thirteen. The Shulammite bride writes, "My beloved is to me a pouch of myrrh, which lies all night between my breasts." So we hear the word "breast" and right away we’re thinking sensuality, but the point is she felt so loved and close to Jesus. She felt safe through the night.
